For many years I have been doing work as @the_breadtag_project_ , working with post consumer breadtags. Some are gleaned and foraged , #feralbreadtags, many are sent to me from people all around the globe- their usual entry into waste streams and landfill interrupted and prevented.
One aspect of the work created as part of the project is to create a solid and comprehensive collection of breadtag specimens before they ( hopefully ) become extinct.
These are presented as pinned specimens, in resin, and in jars. Labelled, their taxonomy and data recorded. Named thanks to @occlupanid and their classification system.
I intend to have the worlds most comprehensive collection of these Artefacts of the Anthropocene, but @horg has outdone me there - so I will have to be content with perhaps the moniker of the Southern Hemispheres largest collection.
I have also completed field books, with further information and notes, drawings and sketches that suppprt the finds if feral tags.

The collection presents as a history of the rise and fall of single use plastic as a wunderkid, to problem child. It also gives insight into the spread of Western type foods ( bread ) over the globe, in the countries these have been found in.And so much other information....

The collecting continues.
As well as other plastics and 'stuff' I find.

Notes and markmaking
'Water Connects Everything'
Last week at Artlands, on Kabi Kabi country, with @regionalartsaustralia, I was a grateful participant.

Over a couple of days, while amazing speakers, films, activations and ideas shared, I listened... but had to keep my little sausage fingers busy, and I knew this would happen.

So I took a l variety of things to write in, including this little sketchbook. And I made marks. Inspired by the conversations, the 'flow' of the gathering.
By a tattoo that I saw. By the images shown.

This was the @belcoarts installation.
This was one iteration.
This is one form it took.
One space.
One place.
It will continue to grow, transform, change, morph.
It will respond depending on variable factors.

ARTLANDS 2026
Water Connects Everything

Thank You @regionalartsaustralia! What an immense privilege to be part of this gathering.
So much knowledge, so many people from so many places and from so many varied disciplines, connecting, sharing,exchanging, listening.
Speakers like Gail Mabo, Professor Anne Poelina, Malachai Clements, Troy Casey, Dr Roberta Marcoli and Danielle Harvey and Bryce Ives, performances from the Gubbi Gubbi Dancers and Lyndon Davis ( playing the didge here )... and so many others.

This was an opportunity to connect with other regional creatives, industry leaders and thinkers, strengthen existing bonds, create others and leave space for the new.

Cognatio 2026

This series comes from a place of maternal and paternal family memories, stories and embedded sentiment, of closeness and being held together by these things. Of reflecting on family and loss, of the things left behind, the gathering them together as momentos and talismen.

These 3 (of a series) were exhibited at @cowraregionalartgallery earlier this year as part of a curated group show, Luminous Evolution.

It's a work in progress. Much like myself.

Tea and Sympathy, (detail) is going to be in the group exhibition opening next week at @orangeregionalgallery, the always exciting to see HERE/NOW show. I missed it last year, too many other commitments, and this resulted in FOMO. So very pleased to have got to it this year. Many artist friends and colleagues will be in this - are you one of them?

I saw a post by the ultra amazing @joylubo about not being happy with something you are working on, and erasing it. Self editing. Then wondering why you did that... It totally resonated!

When scrolling through my phone images, waiting for an appointment, I saw this pic, and remembered that I began to doubt it, wondered if it was working, if it was worth pursuing. And put it to the side. Where it has stayed. A type of disappearance.

It can be difficult to look at things with fresh eyes.
(Or it is for me).

Delighted that this work, "Tea and Sympathy" will be part of the Here/Now exhibition at the fantastic @orangeregionalgallery in late September.
Although seemingly very different to my breadtag work...
I am continuing to explore the subconscious narratives that we attribute to mundane and ordinary cultural objects and how this narrative can be overwritten and/or given alternative meaning when presented in unexpected ways.
