STORY TIME 📚 • Did you know: about 2.5 years into my university degree and 20 lbs into my weight loss a random university student looked me UP AND DOWN and said I do not "look” like I study Kinesiology... Yes. This happened.
The reason I am sharing this is because body image is an important aspect of health to be discussed and addressed. Since this incident, i have completed my degree and further certifications, and continued to work on my health. But this moment still sticks with me.
When it comes to YOUR body and YOUR view of it, it is important to acknowledge all of the amazing things it does for you every day. I know this is easier said than done (especially with all the unrealistic body expectations out there) so below I have outlined a few tips for you to help shift to a more positive view of yourself.
1. If you’re feeling down on yourself: write down 3 good things about your body. This can be as simple as being able to get up in the morning! This IS an accomplishment.
2. Stand in the mirror and acknowledge what you "want to change" about your body. Then end with at least ONE thing you appreciate about your body. Do not leave the mirror unless you have ended on a positive note/view on your body. If you are struggling, acknowledge what you appreciate about yourself.
3. If you are unhappy with how you feel (low energy, fatigue, can’t keep up with the kids); set a small goal related to physical activity that could help. If you don’t know - send me a message and I would be more than happy to give you some tips that work for you!
4. Get moving! Research shows that getting physical activity in (even just a small walk) can improve ones confidence and increase their positivity. by @shaqthomas_
