UNRULY VOICES, indeed.

Thanks everyone for coming to our launch of issue no. 7 at Shared Ecologies, New Delhi, amidst road blockades and traffic restrictions on the eve of the Delhi protests – a polyphony of voices that insist on mattering, that refuse to be ruled.

Thank you to the writers for their brilliant readings of such a diverse range of texts – philosophical, comic, dark, spooky, powerful, poignant.

We really enjoyed how your words came off the page, Suvani Suri, Aranya Padil, Maithili Bavkar, Debarati Bhattarcharya, Shilpa Nagaraj, Suzain Shabir.

Thanks for the support by Pro Helvetia New Delhi and Shared Ecologies.

This issue and event are part of `Transcontinental languaging: decolonising voice, orality, and embodied language‘, a multi-part collaborative project by Nicole Bachmann and Kamayani Sharma, supported by Pro Helvetia New Delhi, the Swiss Arts Council, as part of the 2025 Co-creation grant.

Would you like to see edition 2 ?

From 16–26 August 2026, the @goetheinstitut_newdelhi Delhi Mycelium Lab brought together designers, artists, researchers and practitioners to explore fungal mycelium as a living, responsive material for design and architecture. Through input sessions, field observations, material experiments, hands-on cultivation and an Open Studio, the lab looked at mycelium not simply as a material to be shaped, but as a collaborator - one that grows, reacts and participates in the making process.

we’re excited to announce the next launch of DEARS issue no. 7 UNRULY VOICES
at SHARED ECOLOGIES, New Delhi
9.10.2026
5 pm - 7 pm

Shared Ecologies,
H-2, 3rd floor,
Jangpura Extension
New Delhi 110014

To celebrate the launch of DEARS issue no. 7 UNRULY VOICES, DEARS co-founder Nicole Bachmann and guest editor Kamayani Sharma announce an evening of readings by contributors, hosted by SHARED ECOLOGIES in Delhi. DEARS is a platform for writing and listening practices at the crossroads of art, poetry and experimental writing based in Switzerland.

Issue no. 7 UNRULY VOICES treats voice as a serious matter — of agency, relations, imagination, power and speculation. From the urgent to the quotidian, and from the comic to the spooky, across prose and verse, UNRULY VOICES features a strong and eclectic ensemble that allows for associations to emerge and to think about the voice and its potential to connect and disrupt in a myriad of ways.

Nicole and Kamayani welcome six contributors – Maithili Bavkar, Debarati Bhattacharya, Shilpa Nagaraj, Aranya Padil, Suzain Shabir, Suvani Suri – to share their words in their voices.

Shared Ecologies, a program by the Shyama Foundation, presents a research table at ‘Inheritors of Earth’, an exhibition curated by Premjish Achari @thepartialprofile at KNMA @knmaindia Here, chimeric forms emerge from the ecological. Introducing the ‘research table’ as a framing device, we present artworks and materials that highlight methodologies within artistic practice.

Our curation brings together notes, collected images, constructed photographs, test prints, sculptures, and writings, exploring an in-between space of research and process where art builds knowledge. We explore the epistemological divide between conceptions of nature and culture, where hybridity in being and knowing becomes a way of redressing the insurmountable distance within this division.

Introducing the writers of Writing Natures — Issue 3

Meet Porvika Balasubramanian, contributor to Writing Beyond Nature: Poetic and Sonic Ecologies with Untitled series of poems, reflecting on the tensions within urban ecologies.

“Underneath

the flyover pillars
bougainvilleas are planted like apologies.

I whisper to them as my blaring auto whizzes by

i’m sorry thank you i’m sorry”

An excerpt from Underneath (Poem).

Meet Nitoo Das and Surbhi Mittal, contributors to Writing Beyond Nature: Poetic and Sonic Ecologies, with ‘Ornithosonics I’

“Call them what you may, Red Wattled Lapwings remind us that the world does not speak only in nouns, in stable categories and fixed designations, but also in shifting intensities, repetitions, and variations - languages of relation that refuse to be domesticated by human systems of classification.”
An excerpt from ‘Ornithosonics I’

Introducing the writers of Writing Natures — Issue 3

Meet Nicole Bachmann, contributor to Writing Beyond Nature: Poetic and Sonic Ecologies, with ‘Untitled’ (an audio piece, image and text)

“Your teeth slightly closed still held captive on my outer edges fringes barely held”
An excerpt from ‘Untitled’

This contribution brings together utterance, repetition, animalesque movement, aural intensity, and performance through an audio piece, an image, and a single-line text. Moving between voice, rhythm, and visual suggestion, it considers how language can exceed meaning and become bodily, sonic, and instinctive.

Introducing the writers of Writing Natures — Issue 3

Meet Ishita Jain, contributor to Writing Beyond Nature: Poetic and Sonic Ecologies, with ‘To Stutter Amongst Architectural Ruins’

“Every act of writing carries its own architecture—its scaffolds, skins, concealed machinery. To write a short story is to loosen the joints of meaning, to let words breathe and wander; to write a grant proposal is to tighten them, to encase intuition in the syntax of deliverables. Both emerge from the same hand, yet one gestures toward wildness and the other toward order. Each form builds its own enclosure for the same trembling thing.”
An excerpt from ‘To Stutter Amongst Architectural Ruins’

Timekeepers, in its month-long workshop+lab format, culminated in July with two days of sharing of processes, materials, food, readings and performative gestures. Conceptualized by Sonam Chaturvedi in conversation with Shared Ecologies and the Timekeepers ~ Pallavi ☉ Kuldeep ◎ asma ⎓ Manika ☁︎ Meghna﹌Akshay ◌ Somyaa ✵ Smiha ‣ Karan ✦ Ishita ⚆ Surbhi ❀ Saahil ~ MycoDyke ☽ Mahek ▷ Soumya+

the month-long engagement allowed for slow, everyday continuities form our experiences of Time, rupturing the linearity of past-present-future. It was rooted between bodies~material~processes as entangled grounds where Time sprouts~leaks~teases~ always remaining ungraspable from our reach. The first day brought together all the material-objects each of us stayed with over the month, alongside their processes as visual/sonic documentation, mark-making, text, performances.

The tables oozed with sensorial experiences, materials passing from one body to another, hands moving in circles~spirals~oscillations~smell-to-taste-to-sound-, food entering-merging bodies. Time ~ synesthetic. It was a fruit day— we sat peeling~cutting~chewing~ while listening to each person slowly share their process.

The temporality of a material flows against the duration of a month-long workshop, hence our gathering marked only a moment in its life, our life, to observe/listen/sense it together. The objects were not individuated, but emerged through our collective ‘intra-actions’.

The next day was guided by the materials, improvising into precarious paths— threads spread like networks, connecting bodies, objects, spaces. Food that involved slowness was brought into the potluck of textual references~poems~khus smell~paper pulp~soap bubbles~scrolling-oscillating time~stories of interspecies co-existence~of counting~fermenting~baking time~~ all colliding into sticky viscous relations, in languages beyond our horizons of articulation.

‘Timekeepers’ spills over the workshop’s time[frame], into relations carried forward, materials we keep revisiting, attending together as we keep gathering, sharing, playing across Time, teasing the barricades of clocks-calendars into the wilderness of lived experiences. by @sharedecologies

Shared Ecologies is excited to announce that the third issue of our annually published magazine, Writing Natures, is now available on our website (Link in bio).

Issue 3, titled ‘Writing Beyond Nature: Poetic and Sonic Ecologies’ has been conceptualised and edited by Damian Christinger, writer and curator based in Zurich. The issue features eight contributions by writers and artists responding to the idea of ‘ecocriticism’ through the sonic and poetic.

Taking from cultural theorist Timothy Morton’s seminal text ‘Ecology without Nature’, we invited essays, poetry and visual and sonic interventions that challenge how nature prefigures in our imagination. Damian, in his editor’s note, writes, “The contributions assembled in this issue move through these uncertain territories. They linger among ruins and compost, in atmospheres thick with memory, in landscapes marked by extraction, migration and decay. They experiment with forms that cross the boundaries between essay, poem, score, field recording and meditation. Some texts whisper, others fracture into fragments, others return as refrains. None seeks a singular ecological voice. Together they compose a polyphony of relations.”
