The literal French translation is "old body." In the Grenadian cultural context, Vieux Corps is colloquially understood/referred to as "dead body."

Growing up in America, it felt like no one really knew about this little island called Grenada. 🇬🇩

I was born and raised in the U.S., but I also spent a significant amount of time in the country where my parents are from. Grenada is the culture that raised me. It’s where I spent so much of my childhood that, in a way, it feels like I grew up there too — because I did.

Now I hear people talking about wanting to go for Carnival. Wanting to experience the culture, the music, the mas. And there’s something really special about watching a piece of your history — something you never imagined so many people would one day see or care about — step into the light.

Carnival runs deep. It’s more than a party. These traditions carry history, resistance, storytelling and generations of culture.

And honestly, how do you even begin explaining to your friends that THIS is mas? 😂

So while everyone knows Jab Jab, I wanted to share another piece of Grenada’s Carnival history: Vieux Corps, also known as Vecco.

Because there’s so much more to our little island than people realize. ❤️💛💚🇬🇩

An absolute honor being back home in Grenada to cover Carnival 🇬🇩 The vibes were unmatched and I left with nothing but gratitude! Spicemas is truly unlike any other carnival—I’ll be back for sure. Right now I’m deep in carnival tabanca 😭 and I’ll never look at a callaloo leaf the same again 😂

Being part of the Little Words Project x Sad Girls Club collaboration was more than just a photoshoot—it was a reminder of the power of community, self-expression, and showing up for one another.
