Such a bittersweet feeling, I adore this sport and this team so much. I can’t even describe how grateful I am to be loved and supported by those around me. Little shea had no idea what Dubuque would have in store for her🤍 by @sheareisel

Authenticity is one of the gifts that God has given me, one that I am especially grateful for. I feel openly, deeply, and loudly. Wrestling is the one thing in my life that truly brings out my authenticity to the fullest. Failure, hardship, success, pain, and joy are all simply part of the sport. This weekend I placed 8th in the NCWWC National Championships. I am an All American. Something to be proud of, I recognize. Although am faced with an unwavering heaviness that sits upon my mind and heart. Proud of how far I have come, yet gazing ahead at what I have not yet accomplished. Though, that is what is so beautiful about wrestling. Nothing given, always earned.

Something I have been working on is taking time to celebrate even the smallest victories. I can recall a time where I stood at practice, 9 years old, gazing ahead at the mat in front of me. Tears in my eyes as I watched the boys in front of me drive their knee over toe down the mat. I remember thinking “when I can do that, I’ll be able to beat them”. As I drive my knee over toe today, like second nature, I think about the barriers I haven’t yet accomplished but someday will.

I am grateful for those in my life who support me. I am filled with so much love and appreciation for those who are proud of me for simply existing. This is what my dad told me at the completion of the tournament, “Give yourself some time to enjoy your MANY successes this year. Then at some point, if you want, take a moment to watch yourself and take note of what you liked, what you can build from going forward”. I am so grateful for my family, coaches, friends and all those around me who I know support me unconditionally.

So, here’s to this wrestling season. Here’s to celebrating even the smallest successes. Here’s to growing, developing, learning, and experiencing new things. Here’s to the early mornings and late nights. Here’s to doing what I love day in and day out. Here’s to failing, getting up, and fearlessly failing again. Here’s to unwavering determination, dedication, and hard work. Here’s to the beautiful authentic sport of wrestling.
Here’s to enjoying the journey…
