Start First, Just start it.
Imagine running a transport company with WhatsApp, Google Maps, printed attendance sheets, and Excel… Just the very basics. Well, that was Shuttlers in 2016.

For over a year, @dammyoloke and her team manually tracked buses, marked attendance on paper, updated Excel sheets, and sent emails to customers. And guess what? They served their first 100, 200, and 300 customers that way!

Their very first six corporate clients didn’t come from special connections, no uncles or aunties pulling strings. Just cold outreach, showing up at events, following up, and refusing to give up. In her words, “We were very, very rugged.”

During her keynote at the #SCASummit26, Damilola took us back to the early days of building Shuttlers, reminding us that sometimes the biggest thing standing between you and your dream is the belief that you need everything in place before you begin. They didn't wait for an app to start serving customers. They built a business first, then sought the capital to scale it.

So, what exactly are you waiting for?

📌Are we satisfied with just having access?
“The higher we go up the food chain, the less representation we actually have. At the highest levels, we're not representing the most numbers. Access has gotten us here. But are we satisfied with just having access?”

This question posed by our keynote speaker, @napa_onwusah at the #SCASummit26 is the type that makes you pause for some serious introspection.

We've made significant progress in increasing women's participation in STEM and technology, but that progress isn't reflected equally in leadership positions, executive roles, or startup ownership.

Her message was clear: Access has brought us this far, but access alone cannot be the end goal.

As we reflect on a decade of She Code Africa's impact, the conversation is no longer just about getting more women into technology, but ensuring they have the influence, resources, and opportunities to shape its future.

How well do you know Ada Nduka Oyom?

Over a decade ago, she was a Microbiology student who stumbled across a tech event and decided to attend.

She walked into a hall full of men and found herself as one of just three women there. Sounds familiar?

Years later, Ada would become the Founder and Executive Director of She Code Africa, a multi-award-winning changemaker whose work has earned recognition from the African Union, Google and UNICEF Nigeria, alongside recognition from Forbes Africa and multiple industry awards.

In this episode, she takes us back to the experience that first drew her into tech.

Yesterday, October 11, was International Day of the Girl Child.

This year’s theme, “End child marriage and invest in girls’ rights,” asks us to look beyond protection and question whether girls are actually free to choose their own futures.

This is a call to action from the She Code Africa team: “Girls’ rights are everyone’s responsibility!”

Investing in girls means keeping them in school, giving them access to skills and technology, protecting their health and safety, and making sure they have the freedom and resources to make choices about their own lives.
