I’ve been staring at this scene for many months and wanting to paint it. I have realized that I have to sit with things. I need to feel something to create. Often there is a deeper or symbolic meaning to the objects. Occasionally this meaning doesn’t come until later. Part of me wishes paintings came faster and I was more prolific. Painting is self acceptance. Authenticity shows itself. by @shelfaye

I would rather paint dandelions than pretty bouquets. They are a symbol of tenacity and strength in the face of adversity. Beauty overlooked. The leaves are my favourite part to paint. Pure abstraction.

After Zorn. Lucy Turner Joy.

Showed up today when it was really difficult. Painting makes things better. Proof the process is more important than the outcome. I need to try this one again later. @wakeforart and @roselyn.bpratt keep going ! You are keeping me inspired. Special thanks to @mhbd1 for keeping me accountable and always making my Fridays better❤️ #learningfromthemasters #processoveroutcome #sketchbookstudies #artismeditation by @shelfaye

This is a dedicated post to two favorites. Anders Zorn and @roselyn.bpratt . Roselyn is painting 100 paintings while she recovers. I was inspired to paint this Anders Zorn copy Self Portrait in a Wolfskin Coat. There is so much to learn from master works. I hope to do more.

Go follow #100paintingsroselyn you won’t be sorry.

Occasionally I try an exercise where I try to capture something in as few strokes as possible. I have seen a few artists do this exercise on YouTube. Lifting the brush is a new stroke. It slows me down which is a good thing. Economy of stroke ( a goal of 20 max ) and limited color mix. #30x30directwatercolor #watercolorexercise #dailypainting by @shelfaye

The nice thing about challenges are the little discoveries along the way. I don’t mind blooms. I like them. This paper does not take a beating. It is thin and pilling is an issue. I have to consider where I am placing the brush. I like removing and lifting paint as much as I like putting it on. Cheaper sketchbook paper allows more risk. I will keep going. Plus side I have lights which is often an issue for me!

You never know when inspiration will strike. This was a 2am view passing my sink to get to my coffeemaker. #earlymorninglight

Attempting a new medium… gouache. I ordered some paint from @endeavours_thinkplay #supportcanadianbusiness #supportsmallbusiness

I painted in an @etchr_lab #hotpress #etchrsketchbook
I love the smooth surface and sturdy paper. Gouache has no odor and has a matte finish. The biggest plus is seeing brush marks. I really enjoyed myself.

This is reference is from @nithyaswaminathanart - thank you for this challenge - #alphabetdare and #stilllifechallenge. Her gouache and oil paintings are wonderful. Check them out. by @shelfaye

This little painting reminded me of how much I love the thinking in painting. The challenge of how in making. It results in surprise and a feeling of aliveness. My favorite part of painting.

Thank you @dennispfeil.art and @alaiganuza for the #foodpaintchallenge This was a lot of fun!
