Meet Emmalee “Stapes” Stapleton! A Graduating TDP, emphasizing in Sound Design and Reinforcement! Other titles and accomplishments include her position as President of SU’s USITT chapter, and her work as a FYS Mentor!

What are your post-graduation plans?
Immediately post graduation, I will be the Co-Audio Supervisor of The Cape Playhouse, working on all five shows and being the primary A1 of Mozart to Pop Chart, Hairspray, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!

What are you most proud of from your time at SU?
I’m most proud of setting up the Sennheiser Spectera system (our new wireless mics), which included creating a Dante network, and installing the Digico Quantum 338 (our new sound board). I am also proud of the work I did in helping to rebuild our USITT chapter, and mentoring other students.

What is your favorite memory from SU?
It’s really hard to pick a specific memory, but I will forever treasure all the time hanging out in my living room with my Ghosts (roommates), late night drives, celebrating shows, and mixing Waitress and On The Town. by @shencodesignandtech

Meet Katie Forbes! A Graduating TDP, emphasizing in Lighting Design! Other titles and achievements include her certificate in Technical Direction and her acceptance into the Hemsley Lighting Portfolio Review!

What are your post-graduation plans?
Post-graduation, I’m planning to move back to Houston, Texas this summer to continue my career in lighting design. I lived in Houston for a year during college as I completed my Leukemia treatment. While I was there, I met lot of wonderful people and made a lot of good connections. Upon returning to the city I’m planning to expand on the roots I’ve laid down.

What are you most proud of from your time at SU?
I’m most proud of my legacy. I was was the first student from Shenandoah University to be accepted into the Hemsley Lighting Portfolio Review, a 3-day event in New York City where upcoming lighting designers are given the opportunity to meet with and have their work reviewed by industry professionals. My hope is that this leap paves the way from more students to get the opportunity as well.

What is your favorite memory from SU?
My favorite memory from SU is what I’ve dubbed “The Podium Jailbreak”. In Sophomore year, I and a few others were tasked with acquiring a podium for convocation. Normally this would be a simple task, but somehow every podium we knew of on campus had ended up locked behind a drum storage gate. After talking with Campus Security and anyone we could think of that might have a key, we were left with only one option. Get it the old fashioned way. Luckily for us, the cage didn’t go all the way to the ceiling and there was a lovely stack of probably stable furniture right next to it. One of my peers was willing to brave the climb and after a few tense minutes and a wave at the top, they hopped down into the cage and unlocked the door from the inside. The podium was finally free and we left victorious. by @shencodesignandtech

Meet Caroline Berry! A Graduating TDP, emphasizing in Sound Design and Reinforcement! Other titles and accomplishments include a minor in Professional and Popular Writing and her role as Managing Editor of Shenandoah’s Arts and Literature Magazine, Avalon!

What are your post-graduation plans?
I will work as the Lead Audio Engineer for Hangar Theatre’s Summer Season. This includes mixing the shows Fun Home, Dear Evan Hansen, and Eureka Day.

What are you most proud of from your time at SU?
I came in as a Stage Management emphasis and switched to Sound Design and Reinforcement at the start of my junior year. By doing so, I was essentially restarting my undergraduate academic journey. Not only did I complete the audio program in two years, but I did so while completing a minor in Professional and Popular Writing and holding a part-time job all four years. Following my heart and making the jump to switch programs was scary, but I’m really proud of how far I’ve come.

What is your favorite memory from SU?
My favorite memory from SU have been nights sitting in the living room with my housemates (the ghosts) where laughter and joy felt endless. I’ll carry those moments with me for all time :) by @shencodesignandtech
