Jigai v14🗡 First Ascent

The last couple months have taught me a lot about my values and why I love this sport. The process with this 30 foot bloc epitomized what I love about climbing. It’s given me the opportunity to sit in the sun often bloodied and covered in dirt, but most importantly, surrounded by people who I’m lucky to call friends. Climbing this thing honestly felt like a team sport. I’d name drop you all but I hope you already know how appreciated you are. Excited to share more lovely details in our upcoming video thanks to the support of @windsorrockgym helping get @chrisgatotos on the 📸

Pro tip: Hug your friends and tell them you love them! Maybe even celebrate your own victories with a little “yippeee” taken in Niagara Glen Nature Reserve by @shep_dawson

The stairwell project :)…
Had a solid day outside needed to break the cycle of training on plastic and get some fresh air after nationals. Wanted to get outside to spend some time with the people that make this sport special to me and centre myself before jumping back into training. Was really happy to end up standing on top of a couple old goals of mine. Was hesitant to post this here as it feels like I can’t do justice to how much these boulders matter to me and what they meant to little me who would be losing his mind at the thought of sending any of these… anyways will put together a video after exams calm down and put that up on a better platform.
Climbs from this day will include:
- Rite of passage v13
- Karasu v12
- The real Bruce Lee v9
- Ko Chi Minh trail v9/6
- Chain reaction v9

⚜️Quebec City NACS⚜️

My first elite event where I caught a glimpse of what I know I am. A mixture of presence and non judgement/ non needing led me to a calmer more pliable state. I had “it” for qualifiers then got caught up in old habits in a semis round that suited me. I am proud of the process in qualifiers and grateful for the teachings in semi finals. This sport has always been a vessel for self-actualization now competition seems like an opportunity to observe myself from outside and to be honest a lot of it is ugly but beauty is starting to crack through. Grateful for eyes to see these things people to experience it all with and everyone who makes it possible.

Really proud of my homie @stefanovitch for making his first open final! That + matching shorts + great blocs and community at 🐗town made for a special event. Always a pleasure to be surrounded by the increasingly deep and strong Ontario field. Much love to @hogtownboulders for fostering community and love of the sport and everyone who puts in effort to making all of this possible.

Also quite proud of myself for my progress mentally. I have historically underperformed in competition leaving a lot on the table and feeling detached. Seems the kindness and passion I’ve surrounded myself with and worked hard to emanate has began to seep inwards. Now to enjoy the practice of presence and stepping out of my own way to see what I am capable of.

🇨🇦boulder nationals 2024

Some proud moments from this weekend included: securing top 10 in a strong field. Being the first athlete to zone m4 [vid 1], a flash of m6 [vid 3] and starting to sort out some old weaknesses + slamming an entire general Tao poutine

Assortment of clips from the last two weekends proud to be in finals at both these events and learning how to deal with pressure/skin management is something I’ll need to sort out heading into nationals. Left a lot of blood and sweat out on the mats and am proud of my efforts. As always thanks to everyone who makes these events possible and to all the lads who make finals a good battle. I think I might appreciate the experiences with these people more than the climbs themselves sometimes. Also to Emi, Dylan, Steve, Anthony, and Vic on the 📸 leaving me with memories to reflect on ☮️💜

Happy to snatch the first ascent of an old project that had been worked by legends from before my time at the glen. Thankful @ethan.farkas brought me down to the water and showed me this thing. As for grade this one is tricky as it’s a mix of power and a poor directional foot. Seems harder than some 10 and 11 single move Dino’s I have done but also more technical. Hope this one gets repeated soon it’s a beautiful line down by the water and probably the glens hardest Dino. You can find it to the left of “the pondering”
