This year had other plans.
Highways snowed in.
Family stuck miles away.

85 days since you’ve been gone Mama Dee. But, I think of you on every adventure I've been on since.

When I think of Mama Dee, I think of summers spent at Paul Kane and Hawrelak Park—hair toushties, hairspray, and wild child hair knotted so badly I thought we'd never get them out.
Until Mama Dee’s spray-in conditioner and soft bristled, wide paddled brushes worked their magic, long locks restored until the next day, when the process would be needed all over again. How many bottles of spray-in conditioner we went through, I could never say.

Late-night movie rentals from Blockbuster and pizza while the adults sipped on Spumante.

Drive-in theatres, popcorn, blankets, pajamas, and a school bus we packed ourselves into and drove to the drive-in, wondering if we’d be able to fit down the narrow aisle to the pay booth. But fit we did—Sandlot was a group favorite. I think we watched it 847 times 😂

Summer dresses and heels...with the occasional blister.

Chicken noodle soup on rainy days, pancake breakfasts stacked high with syrup, laughter spilling into the corners of the kitchen, kitchen dances, and the comforting warmth of a home filled with love and gentle chaos.

Ice cream cones melting faster than we could eat them, water balloon fights on scorching afternoons, and the echo of carefree giggles bouncing across the park fields. Evenings spent listening to the crickets sing, sticky fingers from the 5-cent candies purchased at the corner store, and bedtime stories that felt like whispered magic.

Every small, messy, joyful detail stitched together a patchwork of summer memories I will carry forever.

Missing you Mama Dee.
