My friend got mountains tattooed on one forearm (Hawaii on the other) so that she can "go to" her happy places whenever she has a panic attack.

Mountain air and summits remind me how I want to feel every day of my life.

Free.

Though Love and Poetry, as inked in Kanji on my back, are heart and head spaces to which I can turn at any moment, I will settle for flashbacks in the Rockies until next I'm safely able to take the four hour road trip to freedom.

My best friend taught me to undress my feet to bathe in the glacier water, allowing the endorphin rush as the cold stimulates our parasympathetic systems, for rest and repair after a strenuous hike.

Along our trails I see chipmunks and ravens, nature's signs representing freedom and courage, cleansing and healing respectively.

Raven asks us to let go, reflect, stop procrastinating and act now. She symbolizes transformation.

Chipmunk invites communication with our Spirit Guides. They symbolize happiness and adventure.

What spirit animals do you see often in your adventures?

My maternal mental health includes mountains and hiking, with my best friend, without my kid.

Road trippin' brings us lakeside for an evening with my family... into a day of jaw-dropping, sight-seeing exploration post sleepless night. ⁣
⁣
I am anxiety-ridden at great heights...at the rocky, backcountry altitude behind the wheel of our "Fifi" Fiesta bouncing through the wildlife corridor...for my son's safety near the falls...by the chaos of our small, protective senior dogs. ⁣
⁣
Later, "lost" by misdirected GPS, I giggle at the exciting prospect of walking from "Betsy" (trusty ol' Dodge van) through an ATV trail packed with mud and puddles, determined to find another lake.⁣
⁣
Through there, we stumble upon a remote, growing party on the water's edge, joking with the youth about crashing their party.⁣
⁣
Later still, as my dear traveling friend and I sit at the end of the dock across the way, the loon crooning, we watch in awe as the crown of the near-full pink moon rises across the lake. ⁣
⁣
There is much reward in accepting that feeling lost or uncertain is a key part of adventure. ⁣
⁣
If you have faith in the universe, you will often have no trouble finding people to guide you. ⁣
⁣
Your fuel tank will get you further than you'd think.⁣
⁣
There is usually a shorter way to your bed for the night than back the way you came.⁣
⁣
And if you're affected by the full moon too, everything still turns out more than okay. ⁣
⁣
Right, @sher33se ? ⁣

You’ve just been physically punished and beaten by the mountain, that even though you’ve conquered it, sure doesn’t feel that way...then your mountain sister, who is also hurting...turns to you, smiles and says we made it 😁. Pain gone, accomplishment felt...smile a mile wide 😁 #mymountainsister #goodfriends #wekickedass #sherocks #wedidit #dontmesswithamountainwoman #ilovethemountains #themountainsaremyhappyplace

"Fierce friendships aggressively believe in each other."⁣
⁣
Here's to more natural hot springs in tutus, my next BARRE STAR! ⁣
⁣
I'm grateful to my road trip companion, my last minute adventure person, my annual September hiking sister... ⁣
⁣
for choosing my company, ⁣
for knowing my heart, ⁣
for believing in herself, ⁣
for trusting in the fun and challenge of this movement I'm so PUMPED about, and for growing together. ⁣
⁣
I think we're still tight because we're open and willing to embrace challenge and change.⁣
⁣
My core values are loyalty, honesty and resilience and I believe our 15 year friendship embodies all of the above.⁣
