LAST DAY TO HAVE YOUR SAY! {Repost from @wilderness_aus}
The Albanese Labor government is opening vast new areas of ocean for oil and gas expansion in an ocean off 📌 Victoria & Lutruwita / Tasmania, threatening precious marine environments and wildlife.

🐋 These oceans are home to 42 threatened species, including the endangered Pygmy Blue Whale and Southern Right Whale.

✍️ Add your name to our submission to call on the Australian government to halt the expansion of offshore oil and gas, and protect wildlife and oceans. Join more than (updated) 20,000 others who have already taken action.

Communities have fought for years to keep oil and gas out of these waters. Now the threat is back.

Australia deserves better than more fossil fuels.

Scenes + Earth's layers from the journey to ˌɪləˈsɪləwət Glacier, Perley Rock Mountain 🏔️

Illecillewaet is derived from the Sinixt sʔixwʔitw word: meaning big water 🌊🌊🌊
pronounced: sill-wha-eet-kwe

Glaciers have been an interesting thing to learn about whilst living in the Rockies. I'm constantly amazing by their power and what they provide for this planet°°°

Did you know? 💧
- 10% of the Earth's surface is covered by glaciers
- 75% the worlds fresh water comes from worlds glaciers and ice caps

Why are the glaciers melting?
- CO2 emissions: the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) produced by industry, transport, deforestation and burning fossil fuels, amongst other human activities, warm the planet and cause glaciers to melt.
- Ocean warming: oceans absorb 90% of the Earth's warmth, and this fact affects the melting of marine glaciers, which are mostly located near the poles and on the coasts of Alaska

How does glacial melting effect climate change?
- Sea level rise
- More extreme weather events
- Disappearance of species
- Less fresh water

°°°At the same time I'm always left feeling saddened by how we have become immune to the rapid decline and shrinking of glaciers, yet at the same time we are amazed by their beauty.

3 BILLION TREES. I hope you get shocked by this number.

I wonder if it encourages you to question your next purchase of coffee, snacks, water and food?
I wonder if you took a reusable water bottle, straw, fork, cup and plate next time you ate out, instead of using a single use item?
I wonder if you told the business you were supporting that you'd love to see reusable options?
I wonder how the trees would feel? 💚
I'm pretty sure they'd like that... 🌲🌲🌲

When did single use paper-based boxes become more ‘efficient’ than serving food on plates?

Most of us don’t have much control over the containers or wrapping that hold and protect what we buy. If we get a choice at all, it’s often a choice between single-use plastic, and single-use paper.

Half of paper consumed in the EU is for #packaging which is typically used once, then sent for recycling or – especially when it comes to food packaging – to the incinerator. From 2012 to 2020, the average EU citizen increased their paper packaging waste by 10kg each year, and that figure is rising.

Let’s stop talking about whether we need #reusable packaging systems, and start talking about how to make those systems work.

My favourite tree planting day of the year in Vic is tomorrow 💚 I'm a little biased tho, as I get to work with these incred humans + be a tiny piece of the day that is, our annual day which continues weaving the threads of survival, honouring and celebrating First Nations culture ~ and carbon offsetting our emissions of the day back in January.

I've planted on these sacred soils on Bunurong Boon Wurrung with dear souls since 2022, and I can't wait to connect with new + familiar faces tomorrow. A day to care for, + begin to heal Country, and of course ~ protect our mother °

Reminiscing on TO days as I cheer on the boys at home behind the screen {because they made the bloody playoffs this season} go @raptors 🔥

🏀 Living in a NBA city has been one of my life dreams ever since I can remember. And it was the best to actually live it 💚

Thanks for all the memories 🌆 2024-25 from my first game to the last, making new mates from our little Aussie Raps fans community, the rivalries with USA mates, watching the Aussie players score, the @northsidecrewto energy, walking down Raptors way downtown, enjoying the game with people who had never watched an NBA game, seeing it with people I love, and people who attend every damn game, getting to play on the Scotiabank arena court and make a shot on the same court the boys play every week, and getting to watch some WNBA in Seattle at the end of my Canadian journey. Cannot wait for the @torontotempo soon 💚

Some haikus for International Women's Day 💚 “Balance the Scales” is the official theme for #IWD 2026, highlighting the urgent need to ensure fair, inclusive, and accessible justice for every woman and girl.

Despite decades of progress, barriers to justice remain deeply entrenched. One in three women worldwide will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime – yet most will never seek formal help or justice.

Across Australia, conviction rates for sexual assault cases remain persistently low – with the latest NSW figures revealing just an 11% conviction rate, underscoring the immense gap between legal protections and real outcomes for survivors.

UN Women Australia CEO Simone Clarke said: “Balance the Scales is a promise for every woman and girl to be safe, heard, and free to shape her own future. In 2026, unjust laws, policies, and ingrained barriers still stand in the way of fair and inclusive communities. This International Women’s Day, we are calling on Australians to join a movement for real action – to transform our justice systems, amplify marginalised voices, and ensure equality is not the exception, but the rule.”

First Nations women face especially complex challenges, including overrepresentation in the justice system, intergenerational trauma, and limited access to culturally safe legal support. First Nations women are 34 times more likely to be hospitalised due to family violence than non-Indigenous women, highlighting the urgent need for community-led, self-determined pathways that centre First Nations leadership.

Male (young adults) polar bears sparring 🐻‍❄️
They do this to test out their strength, and practice for 'real fights' in the future. It's completely safe + innocent and it was a joy to watch them #inthewild

Polar Bears 🐻‍❄️ I had the privilege of living in this town on the lands of the Cree, Sayisi Dene, Métis, Caribou Inuit when I was in Canada. It's taken me a while to put together all my thoughts on it and I still haven't really. I wanted to post on International Polar Bear Day as it is a time for more awareness of these precious animals + their habitat. I think that like visiting all wild places - where tourism has come in, 💰 is at stake + competition of 'whose tour should you take?' becomes the more prominent question than 'how can we protect these animals?', I am left with more questions ~ as an animal welfare concerned human.

Does it do more harm than good? Should we be visiting these places, unless we are there purely for science? Should we be doing even that? Or are we doing good by sharing these places with the world, in hopes that all the guests will leave, wanting to protect these animals and habitat more? And, do these tourists actually change their behaviour when they return home?

Still, I don't think it's a black + white answer. But the fact is, Churchill is open for tourists + that means 2 things, more wildlife x human conflict + more room for money to get in the way of animal welfare & addressing climate change.

Flashback to 2024, I was lucky enough to see many polar bears in the wild + I'm so grateful to have had that chance. I also felt a lot of guilt being there & seeing bears when I know that they are now staying on the land up to 4 weeks longer than the 1980s. They are forced into the land when the ice melts over Summer & they wait in Churchill to conserve their energy over Winter + for the ice to freeze over so they can go out and hunt seals.

I got to meet amazing humans who respect these bears, who continue to educate visitors on how to be an ethical wildlife viewer 👀

I got to learn more about bears & other sub arctic animals such as owls, hares, foxes, ptarmigans 🕊️

I left Churchill wanting to reduce my footprint even more for wildlife + the people that lived on that sacred land. Knowing that my power comes from sharing my thoughts, however imperfect the words unfold onto the page. So I shall share them as they come out.. taken in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada by @shes_green

Two sisters attended the @djirravic ACTIVEism Festival on Wurundjeri Country at Aunty Patricia Ockwell Court, Narrandjeri Stadium last month. A space named after Aunty Pat, an Elder and proud Wurundjeri woman who has served her community through her work in hostels, housing + justice 🖤💛♥️

“Aboriginal + Torres Strait Islander women experience disproportionate rates of violence, & violence that is often more severe and more complex in its impacts, compared with non-Indigenous women. But violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women is not an ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander problem’. This violence is perpetrated by men of all cultural backgrounds and has its roots in Australia’s history of colonisation.”

Sharing stories, finding solutions ~

“As part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against gendered violence campaign, Djirra’s ACTIVEism Festival is a celebration of Aboriginal women’s strength, a unique opportunity to take a stand against the devastating impacts of gendered violence on our women and children, + a jam-packed schedule of deadly activities + entertainment.”

~ The event explored different ways to build physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health & wellbeing.

🎸 The beautiful sounds of @madicolville_ proud Yorta Yorta Winyarr (woman) born & raised in Echuca/Moama, + @wren.arkose, Wakka Wakka singer-songwriter based in Narrm who grew up on Yagara Country, created a welcoming atmosphere in the space as various activities & information were offered.

We were nourished by the delicious veggie food from @fugazi_pizza + Feed Me 🍄

We immersed ourselves into a @leecouch_ relaxation workshop where she wove her aromatherapy + ceremonial tools into meditation to remind us of self care and it being an act of sacred responsibility, especially in community. Lee uses scent essences to connect to Country, using First Nations aromatherapy for all peoples. She reminded us that when we are burnt out, it is our responsibility to slow down + how it can be an invitation to get to know each other more in our communities. And that it is our sacred responsibility to come home to this -

Where are my beautiful men?

*TW: This piece discusses DV*

The next few posts will be a little different to my usual lovey, earthy and poetry content.

In Australia, 1 in 6 women experience physical/sexual violence at the hands of a current or a former partner.

This number grows each year, as we become more silent as a nation.

This month has been intense, because I signed up to do the @unwomenaust Safe. Everywhere. Always. Challenge to walk 30kms over 16 days, the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. And I've really wanted to write about it and share about it. And as a woman, it's a really loaded thing to talk about. I've struggled to use my voice to share about it. It's not me standing up for animals or the environment - the voiceless. It's me standing up and asking society to do more for women including myself - the powerful, courageous, incredible females in the world who are still asking men to stop killing them. It's vulnerable. And it's something I question, why I am writing about this, and where are my beautiful men and why are they not writing about it and sharing about it? Why are they not wearing it on their t-shirts and marching? Why are they silent? Why is the majority still women? I know this is fundamentally an issue, and that men who realise they need to be in the conversation are the ones I feel most safe around. The ones who raise a female platform and share with other men about the issues, the ones who stand up to their mates in pubs or in private conversations when they say misogynistic comments.

And so last week, words fell out of my body and onto the page like they do. But it's taken me a few days to edit and create them into content.

So here's post one. Stay tuned for tomorrow's.

Here are my beautiful men. I know you. I see you. I hope your allyship reaches other men who still believe it's brave to not show your tears and all your beautiful fears. Please, continue being my beautiful men. And stand the hell up 💚 taken in Naarm by @shes_green
