Agnes Smyth, a widow, was accused of being a witch in December 1612. She had lived in a place called Scaitraw, in Haddington. Her husband was Hew Hammyltoun.

This is all I have found out about Agnes so far. But I also know the names of nine men, who are listed as 'additional persons' in her case, all identified as Commissioner.

I want to believe that Agnes lived a happy carefree life. Until of course the moment that it was no longer carefree. But I suspect her life was always a hard one.

I have filled her spoon with berries for her to make a soothing hot drink. The type i might make with fresh herbs and fruit, or a posh teabag. The type that might get you accused of being a witch.

Fucking patriarchy.

Bing bong! Next project!

I've wanted to take part in the Medicine Spoon Memorial since I first saw it. And here I am.

I have an idea about how I will honour Agnes Smyth in this piece. But it's still bubbling about in my brain. So for now, i'm working on the spoon.

More soon. But possibly not very soon.

Day One Fucking Hundred!

And today I give you Menofuckingfreedom.

This ending wasn't planned (which will surely be a huge surprise to you all) but I couldn't be happier with it.

Because getting through the hormental years has been torrid. And there's been A Lot of other shit. But now? I have freedom from it all. I feel liberated, and more myself than I have been in years.

Also... I've loved this crazy ass 100Days project but i'm quite happy to focus on my other projects now. First up is a hat for my husband.

Freedo. A bit like a Freddo, but can be both more elusive and more available (if you're lucky).

The second pic shows the bad d that I had to un-sew because it wasn't how I wanted it.

Yesterday I went to a talk on the Scottish Colourists by @alice.strang.art. She was mesmerisingly good, so knowledgeable, and so generous to us, the audience, with her knowledge.

Why does it still feel like such a special treat to savour when you encounter a woman being taken seriously for her intellect on a public stage? And Alice Strang held that stage so well. If you are vaguely interested in art in Scotland, buy her book. I'm sure it's available from all good booksellers. And bad ones too.

It's my day 100 tomorrow. I might do some swears to celebrate.

Day 98. Didn't get much done, but it's never been about the quantity or the speed for me with this project.

I've so enjoyed the dilly dallying and just seeing where things take me.

And the biggest fucking surprise is that i'm not going to finish with more swears.

To make up for it, i'm sharing with you the deliciously sweary and utterly gorgeous artwork created by the wonder that is @stevie_cavana_art. I do love a collab and it was such fun to be part of this one.

I've also included my Hot Tomato Chutney recipe because I spent all yesterday afternoon turning vast quantities of tomatoes into 4 wee jars of the good stuff. It's safely stored Under The Stairs now. Except we live in a bungalow with no stairs. But that's another story.

And I might have started my next project already, which adds to the irregularity of posting.

It rained A Lot today. I sat by the window and read bits of the Sunday Papers. And stitched.

I'm going to finish this piece off how I started, with some stitched words. Though this time i'm using couch stitch and the magical ombré thread, instead of creating my own fade as I did with the Menofuckingpause.

Hmm... I could comment on the concept of 'fading' with the Menofuckingpause, but you don't really need me to do you?

These rivulets are like our lives, intertwining, criss crossing, bumping into one another, being stronger when we're all together... but ultimately we're on our own paths.

I like how it seems our menopausal selves are held up (but oh so lightly) by these rivulets.

The second pic is my collection of ombré threads. It seems I can ombré to the end of days (100Days).

I was away most of the day yesterday. I spent most of it in a car, so did a knitting side hustle as the stitchery would have been impossible.

The latest bit is stitched with an orange ombre thread. I wasn't sure at first, but now i'm loving it.

I might be ombre-ing all the way to 100 at this rate.

More lovely feather stitch. I love how it finds its own path, like water in a burn finding its way down a hillside.

One thing I've noticed as my hormones have changed, and my life has changed too, is that i'm better at trusting my own path down the hillside of life.

Today's bonus pic is the silverware I won at the Flower Show - the Mrs Baillie Cup for Best Exhibit in Produce. Wahay!
