My new single drops next Wednesday. This is one of my personal favourites. A little back story - I was playing a show in the Washer Woman in Ballina. Some guy in the crowd was being beyond supportive and it meant the world in that moment. I hummed a melody in the car on the drive home. I had an idea for the song, it was laying somewhere between moving abroad in search of a ‘better’ life and the feeling of wanting more at home, but maybe you can’t get to either. A song for generation stuck. It’s aggressive bold & restless. I hope you enjoy it. Shimmer Boy is the indie project of Cork songwriter and guitarist Aaron O’Sullivan, blending folk, alternative rock and heart-felt songwriting. With 15+ years of experience as a working musician, he is quickly building a name as one of Ireland’s emerging independent artists. Following the release of his debut album In The Aftermath, We Bloom, Shimmer Boy has picked up strong momentum across radio, television and live performance. “Hideaway” earned RTÉ 2FM Track of the Week and Radio Recommended recognition, while “Faith In You” marked his television debut on RTÉ One. His music has also reached an international audience through a sync placement for “Under The Surface” in the UK series Made in Chelsea. My first big concert as a kid was AC/DC. Dad took me up to Punchestown in Kildare, filled with 80000 fans, and we stood and watched this top tier rock show from the thick of the pit. I remember it being LOUD, as I stared in awe at these guys absolutely killing it. I had that moment of ‘I wanna do what they do.’ I undoubtably practised 8-10 hours a day in my teens. Music was and still is my escape, nirvana, my meditation if you will. Between studying music for half my life & later delving into songwriting, my presence & authenticity has always been with the guitar, particularly in heavier genres, but that’s broadened in my maturity. Liam and I have collaborated on dozens of songs over the years, with various set ups, chapters & shows of all kinds. A couple of weeks ago we both decided it was time to do the thing. Expect an albums worth from us in the near future. This is something we cooked up in just over an hour yesterday.
