@everyverything and @shitgardens had a quick chat with the legendary @crime_pays_but_botany_doesnt and ahead of diving into his new book, Concrete Botany.
Here’s a snippet from the conversation. We might have a longer chat in the future, any questions you’d like us to ask Joey? by @shitgardens

Very sad to hear about the passing of plant design legend Nigel Dunnett, whose work helped shift planting to be wilder and ecologically driven.

I spent some time walking around Google Maps looking at before-and-after views of Grey to Green in Sheffield – a project that really brings life back to what was hidden drains and concrete.

Thanks to Nigel for all his work, and to those involved here and elsewhere in continuing to push for projects like this.

Let’s pull up some more concrete and make a space for some things to live. ♡ by @shitgardens

@shitgardens and @everyverything spoke with Mike Hewson (@mikehewson) about Rocks on Wheels – a public art playground on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung land in Naarm/Melbourne.

Hewson designed Rocks on Wheels as an artwork and playground that challenges play design norms. More than 300 tonnes of Victorian bluestone boulders perch on seemingly flimsy, domestic-scale dollies (quietly and very seriously engineered). Twisted steel climbing frames, hidden rubber safety mats, casually lashed palm trees and a scattering of clever easter eggs have helped make it one of Naarm’s most loved new play spaces in years.

Hewson reflects on how working in post-earthquake Christchurch shaped his practice – and expanded his sense of what is up for redesign in public space. by @shitgardens
