Loc repair requires more than knowing how to retwist.

It requires understanding the hair, assessing its condition, and knowing how to reinforce and reconstruct where necessary.

My approach has always been to preserve as much of the client’s natural hair as possible while restoring the integrity of their locs. So before you consider cutting off your locs, come see me!

Six years. Same loc extensions.

When this client first came to me, she already had locs, but she wasn’t happy with the installation. After assessing her hair, I recommended starting over to create a fuller set.

Six years later, she’s still wearing the locs I installed.

That’s the importance of getting the foundation right.

This client wanted to transition away from wigs and begin wearing her natural hair, but there was very little hair to work with in this area.

Instead of waiting for more length, I created the foundation.

I used Afro kinky hair and an interlocking technique to create stability before continuing the loc construction with crochet. The goal was to create a loc that blended naturally with the length and fullness of the rest of her hair.

Crochet is an important technique, but it isn’t the only tool available to us.

The skill isn’t just knowing how to perform a technique. It’s knowing when and why to use it. #phillylocstylist #phillyloceducator #phillylocs #phillyloctician #loceducation by @shopshabazz
