There’s more to locs than a retwist.

After years of working with locs, one thing I’ve learned is that knowing how to maintain them and knowing how to restore them are two very different skill sets.

From repairs and reattachments to restoration and preservation, there’s so much more to learn.

That’s why I created BEYOND THE RETWIST, an advanced, hands-on educational experience for locticians looking to expand their technical skills.

I’m bringing my knowledge back home to Philadelphia this November.

My goal isn’t simply to give you beautiful locs today, but to create a foundation that can grow and evolve with you for years to come.

Philadelphia, I’m coming home.

I’ll be accepting a limited number of appointments November 14–25 for custom loc extensions, restoration, repairs, and specialized loc services.

Introducing Beyond the Retwist.

After eight years behind the chair, I’m opening a new chapter: sharing the knowledge, techniques, and experience I’ve developed through years of working with locs.

Beyond the Retwist is a private, hands-on education experience for locticians ready to expand their skills in loc extensions, repairs, reattachments, and restoration.

My first private training sessions will take place in Philadelphia this November.

For training inquiries, send a DM with TRAINING.

With love, Ugo 🤎

Loc repair requires more than knowing how to retwist.

It requires understanding the hair, assessing its condition, and knowing how to reinforce and reconstruct where necessary.

My approach has always been to preserve as much of the client’s natural hair as possible while restoring the integrity of their locs. So before you consider cutting off your locs, come see me!

Six years. Same loc extensions.

When this client first came to me, she already had locs, but she wasn’t happy with the installation. After assessing her hair, I recommended starting over to create a fuller set.

Six years later, she’s still wearing the locs I installed.

That’s the importance of getting the foundation right.

This client wanted to transition away from wigs and begin wearing her natural hair, but there was very little hair to work with in this area.

Instead of waiting for more length, I created the foundation.

I used Afro kinky hair and an interlocking technique to create stability before continuing the loc construction with crochet. The goal was to create a loc that blended naturally with the length and fullness of the rest of her hair.

Crochet is an important technique, but it isn’t the only tool available to us.

The skill isn’t just knowing how to perform a technique. It’s knowing when and why to use it. #phillylocstylist #phillyloceducator #phillylocs #phillyloctician #loceducation

LOC LESSONS WITH UGO

Retwisting is only one part of maintaining locs.

A good loctician is also paying attention to:

Density. Root integrity. Weight.

What needs reinforcement.

What needs to be left alone.

Because the goal isn’t just a clean retwist.

THE GOAL IS LONGEVITY.

This appointment included a retwist, styling, and targeted loc repair to strengthen the areas that needed attention while keeping the overall look clean and balanced.

The goal is always the same: preserve what can be preserved, repair what needs support, and leave the locs looking intentional.
