2025 has definitely not been the ideal year, but nevertheless, it’s time for a big life update, as it’s taken a while for me to formulate my thoughts about a very big chapter. In exactly 2 weeks from today, September 22 to be exact, I’ll be undergoing a gastric bypass surgery, which has been a work in progress for nearly 2 years. My weight has been one of the biggest struggles in my entire life. I’ve never felt comfortable in my own skin, and having developed an eating disorder through my 20s due to unforgettable trauma and PTSD that I’ll live with until the day I leave this world has made me feel like a prisoner in my own body for years. I can’t stress enough when I tell you that I have tried so many methods to get on a healthier path, but with little to no success. I look at this as a new beginning towards a healthy life, as I don’t want to feel or look the way I do anymore. NGL: I’ve definitely been facing my own mortality as of late, and the idea of undergoing surgery has definitely put a lot of things into perspective, as anything could always happen, which I’m sure many of my haters and enemies would be thrilled about LOL. (If you’ll entertain my dark humor for just a sec more: I’ve one helluva Spotify playlist for my funeral if things go south.) On the way home from one of my final prep appointments today, my anxiety definitely attempted to get the best of me. As I hope for the best, I wanted to have this out there, and want to hear from any fellow friends and followers of mine if you’ve had a surgery like this and any advice you can share, as I get ready for my own procedure. I remember being in the theaters when also hearing this score for this post from @jamesgunn’s #Superman and it was when I found out it was literally called “Being Human” that I realized: my road to where my body is may not have been perfect but truly, it’s so human, and also, very human thing to want change.
