It's such a pleasure to share with friends freshly made Haldi, 100% organic, grown and processed on our farm. (Organised and managed by @nandinikoza ) In the process, one gets so many insights into the issues faced by farmers. For example, the bottles here probably cost more than the haldi. The produce of farmers is mostly valued very cheaply by the market as against industrial products. No wonder farmers barely sustain themselves whereas industry can make profits of 20-30%. by @shripad571

🌊 Water Realities: Reimagining Sustainable Futures

📅 10th–14th May, 2026
📍 Sambhaavnaa Institute for Public Policy, Kandbari, Tehsil Palampur, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh

Resource Persons:
Manshi Asher
K. J. Joy
Shripad Dharmadhikary
Jiten Yumnam

Across India, droughts and floods now coexist. Rivers no longer follow historical flows. Groundwater aquifers and springs are drying up faster than they can recharge, across diverse ecological zones. These transformations place disproportionate burdens on a wide range of communities, already facing social and economic marginalization.

Yet the “water crisis” is still framed as scarcity or mismanagement, masking deeper questions of justice, governance, and ecological change.

Activists and NGOs; young researchers and students (master’s onwards); environmental lawyers; or media persons wishing to report on the subject are welcome to apply.

Pune Event Not To Be Missed:
Tarun Bhartiya 's photos and political commentary were something I looked forward to on FB. Friend & filmmaker Sanjay Kak in a tribute to Tarun, through Yaarbal Books brings to us Tarun's photos of a powerful and a successful struggle against uranium mining in Meghalaya, with images of Khasi village, protest, capturing it's leadership, etc. through a photo book.
Angela Rangad will be sharing her thoughts around this book event brought to us in Pune as part of LOKSHAHI UTSAV on 27th January. Details in poster below. Don't miss this event.

Been doing some bird watching - Nal Sarovar, some water bodies in Bhavnagar...some amazing sightings. But one thing left me quite sad, the fairly common, even rampant practice of feeding gathiya to the birds. It's disrupting the natural feeding habits of the birds...and even leading the seagulls to come into inland waters, as this pic in Bhavnagar shows. As Our guide wryly commented "like all other visitors here how can these (migratory) birds leave without eating gathiya"!! by @shripad571

Gujarat trip begins with a bang...or rather, a roar. From the past. At the old palace of the Sayla Maharaja...This trip is packed with all the elements I love - music, nature, food (yes, amazing Gujarati food), time with friends and family, some nostalgia and a touch of the extraordinary - like tigers and more by @shripad571

Pune Event

A Must-Watch Documentary Film on the World Bank and its 80 Years of Legacy in India.

Importantly, the film is made by Joe Athialy, an integral part of the Narmada Bachao Andolan, which successfully drove the World Bank out of the gigantic interstate Sardar Sarovar Project.

Joe has been working with the Centre for Financial Accountability (CFA) and deeply understands the role of international financial institutions.
