無畏印 Ceramics 17＊25cm 2021 This artwork shows a hand in the Abhaya Mudra. It is a common gesture in Buddhism that means “no fear” or “freedom from fear.” The work is part of my Burning Relics series. In Buddhism, relics (śarīra) are crystal-like remains that can appear from ashes under special conditions. For this piece, I made the bones with clay and the flesh with porcelain. When fired at high temperatures, they melt and flow together again. Through this process, both fear itself and the fear that cannot be erased are dissolved, returning to emptiness.
