📷 Photo: [Bokyoung Han, Caption Seoul] 🗓 2025 / Seoul ⸻ The Possible States of Shedding Ⅶ – Shippō Seoul, 2025 “Shippō (Seven Treasures)” here does not refer to the historical list of sacred materials, but to a more primal inquiry into the tension between matter, time, and rebirth. Lacquer, volcanic ash, gourd, mother-of-pearl, gold and silver leaf, jade, and prayer beads — each material participates as a medium of transformation rather than mere ornament. An archive of breathing matter — shimmering between decay and regeneration.

Ceramics 17＊25cm 2021 This artwork shows a hand in the Abhaya Mudra. It is a common gesture in Buddhism that means “no fear” or “freedom from fear.” The work is part of my Burning Relics series. In Buddhism, relics (śarīra) are crystal-like remains that can appear from ashes under special conditions. For this piece, I made the bones with clay and the flesh with porcelain. When fired at high temperatures, they melt and flow together again. Through this process, both fear itself and the fear that cannot be erased are dissolved, returning to emptiness.
