Crazy how much snow we have been getting. There was a large avalanche just up the road from my house at bridal veil falls that was naturally triggered and covered the entire viewing area, bike path, the road to access the falls.

Some of the snow chunks are the size of a house. The entire area is closed off and avalanche danger is still very high in the area. Please stay safe out there.

More than half of Utah’s reservoirs are at full capacity. In this video you see the spillover ramp of Deer Creek resorvoir being used to send additional water down stream.

The Provo River has been running high, at times as much as 7x higher than normal run rates.

I have been having some lingering worry about Utah and its reservoirs in years past and it is refreshing to see what a few good years of snow pack, water management, and water saving initiatives have done to help our hydrological drought.

The snow is melting at bridal veil falls. Dirty snow, massive Timbers and debris remain. Many hikers are hiking up the snow field. The upper parking lot right off the highway is now open. The frontage road is still closed. taken in Provo Canyon by @sickniq

Access to the Bridal Veil Falls is still very limited. I rode my road bike up the canyon and recommend that if you are going to visit be prepared to park in a safe spot either at canyon glen park or above at the upper falls trailhead and walk down the frontage road.

Bike path is currently melted all the way up to the bridal veils park parking lot. For best views I would recommend taking the frontage road past the bridal veils parking lot and taking the footbridge across the river to see the avalanche slide.

Frontage road is still closed for the season and the avalanche slide has been cleared from the road right by the falls.

Please be advised that you could be cited for parking off the Provo canyon highway. All immediate parking near the waterfall is still closed as of today 4/11/23. If you are walking on the snow please be safe because there could be pockets of melted snow in areas that could pull you below. I got sucked in a hole up to my hip yesterday while getting these shots. Two week update from the Bridal Veil falls avalanche. Snow is compressing and appears the slide is not as tall. The river is cutting through and I would imagine would make a cave/tunnel through the slide. It’s still very dangerous and the entire area is closed down. Snow piles are still on the access road. I am pretty sure the railing of the bike path will be destroyed and have to be rebuilt. Hopefully the path itself will be in good condition. I’m sure it will be late spring before it is all cleared.
