In case you wondered "why this logo?" 🎮

An homage to oldschool game design, I knew I wanted the quest marker to be central to my new brand. Whether it's World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy, the overhead marker indicating quest and reward has, in more recent titles, been forgone in favour of clean, modern, game UI (which I think is a massive shame). So with pencil in hand, I began drawing out dozens of iterations (I'll let you decide where I started and ended on that page).

By sheer coincidence, each initial of SQC could also be found in my final logo, and I find that superbly satisfying 😌 by @side_quest_ceramics

See what Vincent is making 🎮🐌 @side_quest_ceramics
Vincent grew up on video games, and every now and then, a little bit of that world sneaks into his pots.
Characters, objects, shapes — or simply stacking pieces higher and higher to see what new silhouettes appear.
Then it’s back to the wheel to see what those shapes might become.
Come see what Vincent has been stacking, spinning and making at:

Project Snail is joining Sydney Craft Week.
This year’s theme is Community — something very close to our hearts.
We opened the studio in February 2020, just one month before everything changed. Since then, Snail has made it through lockdowns, ups and downs, and most importantly, grown because of the community that has grown around it.
This October, we’re bringing some of those makers together for a community ceramics market — a little snapshot of the different hands, styles and stories that have grown around Snail.
Meet the makers, peek at their pots — more soon 🐌

Ceramic Tiffin |

I love making things to commemorate special occasions. Weddings in particular give me plenty to work with in terms of ideas. To me, I see all the moments by the dining table, the shared meals, and of course, the shared clean up.

This particular piece is for Amara, Jason, and their calico cat Hoji, each layer of the tiffin representing each member in this little family. Not videoed, me giving this to them at 12AM before their flight the next day, but rest assured their reaction was worth it.

Also not pictured, the handle straps which bring it all together, it wouldn't be a tiffin without them!

Cabramatta was always a second space for me and my parents. It's where I learnt how to pick the good produce when my parents would scour the styrofoam displays. Where I fell in love with sugar cane juice and bubble tea (before it got cool), and disappointingly came to learn how unhealthy it all was. I'd spent many hours cramming for exams in cafes that sadly no longer exist.

And as I got older, and my prospects farther away, I started visiting Cabra less. Every return came scripted with the same response, "oh that's new". And one sunny return I swung by a new corner cafe to visit someone who asked to pick up a cup she had ordered after seeing a friend post one on his story. That cafe was @seekercafe, and that mutual was @budsofJupiter, and the rest is history.

Working with Seeker has been so special and dear to me in more ways than one. Still budding in my ceramics journey, the opportunity to work with any local business was a milestone I didn't expect to meet so soon. It was such an honour to celebrate with them at their grand opening last Sunday and I've yet to fully process it all. I'd been toiling away these last few weeks, bouncing ideas with Jen and Jimmy, sourcing materials, wood working, sewing, and of course throwing in the lead up to this event that now, my idleness feels uncomfortable.
Yet still, I wouldn't change a thing.

And that's not acknowledging throwing live! I can pin point all the things that went wrong in my demo, the clay being too soft, bad pulls, being overstimulated out of my mind, but wow was doing all that to the backdrop of @blendtheory____ something else.

A massive thanks to my two helpers on the day, Sharon and Robin, I couldn't have done any of that without you.

To everyone that came by, watched, bought, and mingled, thank you! The community (and even the weather) really showed up for Cabramatta that day, and I'm so proud of the very same Cabra I grew up with.

And of course, my biggest thanks and congratulations to Seeker for throwing something the likes of which Cabra has never seen. I wish my eyesight was as clear as @jimmygnourt's vision 🤯

I'll be at @cabramattaplaza this Sunday sharing vibes with the wonderful bunch @seekercafe x @blendtheory____ and I'm bringing my wheel with me 🫪

Not only will a bunch of my wares be available for grabs, come watch me make random stuff too! I'll be alternating demonstrations with the talented @budsofjupiter, so between music, drinks, flowers and pottery (and much, much more), there'll definitely be something to keep your eyes glued to.

☕ Seeker takeover 11AM - 2PM
⚔️ Watch me throw at 12PM and 1PM (don't watch too closely though, I'll get nervous).

PRAY THE WEATHER BEHAVES FOR US!!! 🌞🌅 by @side_quest_ceramics

@seekercafe X SQC |

These last few months, I've been quietly brewing something special. Last weekend, I finally handed them over. It's been an absolute blast designing and prototyping these vessels for the Seeker team, a creative process that was both new, incredibly exciting, and deeply insightful into my own creative process and identity.

Cups designed to appreciate the moment, and elevate the coffee experience. Through trial and error, consultation and bouncing ideas, we arrived at these textured, dual rimmed vessels, unique in silhouette and feel. The base is accented with a burst of colour, contrasting Seeker's cool toned ambience.

A massive thank you to @budsofjupiter for making the connection, and to @jimmygnourt for trusting me throughout this process. I cannot wait for people to behold them in store. ☕ taken in Seeker coffee by @side_quest_ceramics

Catch me next Sunday at Fortress Sydney as part of the Artisans Guild markets.

I'll be joined by a few other artists and illustrators within the tavern section of the venue. Swing by, support local art, and top up your tankard with your favourite grog.

Ikebana Range |

Sometime last year I took an ikebana arrangement class on a whim and quietly found myself falling in love with a new medium. I've only ever regarded flowers as markers for celebration, but have recently come to appreciate their presence in my home. I'd buy flowers for photo shoots with my ceramics and find myself appreciating the space the take up once I've done what I'd set out to achieve.

Ceramics and flowers exist in happy symbiosis, like dumplings and chilli oil or being drunk and a ordering a kebab. It just makes sense. This series of vessels is a little study into the art form that I'll definitely continue on.

Most of these will fall into the hands of a wonderful florist friend of mine, who I know for sure will give each the life they deserve. More on that in the near future!

In the meantime, which is your favourite!? 🥀🥀🥀 by @side_quest_ceramics

Vases |

I tend to shy away from vases. They're a form I (at least not until recently) rarely make, largely because as functional objects, I don't have much use for them. Then, around late last year, I felt stagnant in my abilities. I observed students local and overseas tackling large and tall forms only months (or even weeks) into their learning, and found myself lacking, and admittedly, a little jealous. And so, I endeavoured to practice.

Vases, at least the kind I wanted to make, require height, patience, and a feel for the clay I hadn't quite developed. Looking at my previous attempts (pic 5 to 7), I recall how clumsily they were thrown and trimmed, only to end up with something awfully heavy, short, and better suited as paper weights.

Then, something clicked. This latest batch of vases are finally some I am proud to call a vase. I believe a good vase can not only act as a vessel, but stand on its own as a feature and decorative object. With so much vertical real estate, I love playing with gradations of different glazes, seeing how they bleed into one another, and fortunately, I think these experiments turned out great.

Can't wait to make truly massive pots, but until then, these not so little triumphs will do.

Really put my sweat and tears into making this piece. Here's a behind the scenes of it being made!

Also thanks to Cass for pointing out I needed to clean my lid up some more so it wouldn't stick to the jar body 🙏
