The Cygnus Wall, roughly 20 light-years long. If you placed it where the Orion Nebula sits in the sky, it would be a naked-eye showpiece. Instead, at ~2,600 light-years away with very low surface brightness, the whole nebula spans four full moons of sky yet most people have never seen it without a camera.

The star that lights it up was a mystery for nearly a century. Everyone assumed Deneb powered the North America Nebula, but the true ionizing star — nicknamed the Bajamar Star (J205551.3+435225) — hides behind the dark dust lane that forms the “Gulf of Mexico.” It wasn’t confidently identified until relatively recently, because the dust dims its light by several magnitudes. So the star creating the glow in your image is literally invisible in your image.

2026 attempt at this gorgeous nebula. This is 28 hours worth of data across 22 nights. Loved the intricate details of the Cygnus wall.. :)

NGC 7000 is known as the North America Nebula due to its similarity in shape to the geographical outline of its namesake continent.

The North America Nebula is an emission nebula found in the Cygnus constellation, glowing due to the ionisation of interstellar gas caused by radiation being emitted by hot, young stars.

NGC 7000 is located 1,700 lightyears away and measures 100 lightyears across.

This is one my largest projects to date. Total of 42 hours of data collected over 40 nights. Happy that I was able to capture the faint details in the background.. :)

The Crescent Nebula, also known as NGC 6888 and Caldwell 27, is a striking emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus. It’s roughly 5,000 light-years from Earth and 25 light-years wide. The nebula’s distinctive crescent shape is due to a central Wolf-Rayet star, WR 136, which pushes hydrogen and oxygen atoms outward.

This is what looking at half a million stars at once looks like ✨✨✨

Messier 13 or M13 is very far away, 25,000 light-years. This is several times farther away than the farthest stars you can see with the unaided eye. And the cluster is large, about 165 light-years across.

Overall, how many stars does M13 have? About 300,000, and perhaps as many as a half million. In fact, that is about 100 times more than the number of stars you can see with your eyes alone in our sky at night.
