Vitamin D - just take a supplement and you’re sorted? Not quite.
Vitamin D doesn’t work in isolation. Magnesium, K2 and omega-3s all have a place in the conversation. And because Vitamin D is fat-soluble, more isn’t automatically better.
Then there’s something completely different that I think deserves attention when the days get shorter (and darker): LIGHT.
A SAD LAMP won't make Vitamin D, but getting that strong morning light signal can support mood, energy and sleep. I’ve pulled all of this together into a simple winter strategy in my latest blog.
Read When Sunlight Isn’t Enough via the link in bio. Save this for the darker months.

Fantastic weekend at the @healthoptimisationsummit
After listening to biohackers and experts, chatting with lovely people, and testing the latest technologies and products, my take is this:
Health isn’t the destination.
We’re not here to live forever.
We’re here to be healthy enough to add life to our years, pursue our purpose and bless others with our God-given talents.
We do this by making the right choices and developing the habits that are good for us and the ones around us.
We can test and use technology and products to our advantage, but they should not become the center of our lifestyle… unless you are a bio hacker yourself 😃

What do you think?

Most people only think about iron when a blood test shows anaemia, but low iron can also undermine metabolism and mood. Iron isn’t just about haemoglobin and energy — it’s a required cofactor for the enzymes that make and activate thyroid hormone, and it’s essential for building dopamine and serotonin. Small shortfalls can slow your metabolism and blunt motivation long before a standard blood count flags anaemia.

C.S. Lewis once said that health only arrives when we want other things more — food, fun, work, open air. He had a point.

Somewhere along the way, we swapped living well for managing ourselves like a never‑ending project. Optimise this, track that,… hoping that a magic treatment will restore our spark. Needing convenience foods and processed snacks because we no longer have time to cook from scratch; tablets to provide the nutrients we no longer consume; medication to repair the harm caused by stress, junk, toxins and chemicals.

But what if we’re being sold solutions to problems we don’t actually have, or don't need to have? What if the “fix” is becoming a bigger problem?

And if something is feeling off… What if the first step is going back to basics? Real food. Real connection. Real laughter. Time in nature. Purposeful work. The things that made us well long before wellness became an industry. Sometimes the most radical thing you can do for your health is to stop obsessing over it — and start living again.

What do you think?

Early trials in women with major depression show that adding creatine (3–5 g/day) to an SSRI can speed symptom improvement and raise remission odds — under medical supervision. Not a replacement for meds or therapy. TCreatine helps brain cells make and store energy (ATP). Depression is linked to low brain bioenergetics for some people — pairing an SSRI with creatine may give neurons the energy they need to respond to treatment.
NB: This is not medical advise, so always consult with your practitioner.

For more on creatine, and how to choose the right one, head to our blog post “Creatine: Science or Hype?”. Link in bio

If you are a chocoholic, this is great news: RAW CACAO is a powerhouse of nutrients! I’m not talking about the commercial sweet stuff full of additives, but the real deal.

With ~540 mg of magnesium per 100 g (values vary by product), raw cacao ranks among the very richest natural sources of magnesium — second only to pumpkin seeds.
Not all that magnesium is bioavailable: Raw cacao naturally contains phytates and oxalates that bind minerals and reduce intestinal uptake, so the magnesium on the label will be only partially available, but it is still a great way to top up your intake of this hugely beneficial mineral.

Raw cacao is also loaded with flavanol antioxidants, fibre and iron, making it one of the most nutrient‑dense ways to enjoy chocolate in its purest form.
Raw cacao vs cocoa: choose raw cacao when you want maximum flavanols and nutrient density. Roasted cocoa tastes more chocolatey, and Dutch‑processed (alkalized) cocoa has a milder flavour but far fewer flavanols. If antioxidant and mineral potency are your goal, pick minimally processed, unsweetened raw cacao.

You can make the best post -workout CHOCOLATE DRIN and luscious superfood CHOCOLATE BARS only a few ingredients.
All about RAW CACAO and the full recipes on our website — link in bio.
Save this post for cacao inspo and tag a friend who needs a magnesium boost.

Commercial Sports drinks are marketed for energy — but the ingredient list tells a very different story.

WHAT’S ACTUALLY INSIDE :
13% glucose syrup — A fast sugar hit that spikes blood glucose, stresses the brain, and feeds the wrong microbes.
Artificial colours— Linked to attention issues in children and associated with gut irritation in sensitive individuals.
Synthetic sweeteners (Sucralose, Acesulfame K) — May alter the microbiome, reduce beneficial bacteria, and confuse appetite + insulin signalling.
Preservatives + acidity regulators — Designed for shelf life, not gut health. Some can disrupt the gut barrier in high or repeated exposure.
Caffeine — A stimulant layered on top of sugar — a combo that can worsen jitters, mood swings, and energy crashes. Not for kids.
Flavourings + additives — Ultra‑processed inputs your gut and brain have to work harder to detoxify.

If you want smarter hydration, find the recipe for an ALL NATURAL ELECTROLYTE PUNCH on our website — and the SACHETS I recommend for when on‑the‑go days.

Swiss chard is one of the most nutrient‑dense leafy greens you can put on a plate — a true “quiet superfood” delivering minerals, antioxidants, fibre and protective phytonutrients in every leaf. It’s exceptionally rich in vitamins A, C, E and especially vitamin K, offering 477% of the daily value per cooked cup. It’s also one of the richest natural sources of magnesium and potassium, two minerals most people under‑consume yet rely on for energy, calm, muscle function and metabolic balance.
Beyond minerals, Swiss chard provides beta‑carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin and quercetin for antioxidant defence, fibre for digestion and blood‑sugar control, and natural nitrates that support vascular health. And while it does contain oxalates, light steaming reduces them by roughly 10–25% without significantly depleting magnesium or potassium — a meaningful distinction from boiling, which removes far more oxalates but also strips up to half the minerals. A quick steam, then finishing with olive oil and lemon, helps preserve minerals while enhancing absorption of fat‑soluble vitamins and iron.

Iron and calcium compete for absorption — so if you’re trying to optimise both, split them. Think calcium‑rich breakfasts or lunches, and iron‑rich dinners. And skip pairings like red meat with cheese, or lentils with cream, where one mineral blocks the other.
Remember: the calcium your body actually uses depends on the source, the combinations, and the state of your gut. It’s not just what you eat — it’s what you absorb.
