SOLD! HARPER HOSPITAL AMBULANCE, DETROIT, MI - Beautiful mounted silver gelatin photograph of a horse-drawn ambulance for the Harper Hospital in Detroit, Michigan circa 1890, parked in front of the original Harper Hospital that was opened in 1884 and demolished in 1977. The building existed at 3800 John R street and was designed by architect Elijah E. Myers. HARPER HOSPITAL is displayed on the side of the ambulance and above where the driver is seated, it reads AMBULANCE. I very rarely find such nice photographs of ambulances from this time period. Photograph is in very good condition with a small stain at bottom. Mount is in very good condition with minor wear to corners. A great photograph of an early American hospital and ambulance, scarce view!

AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE - 1920s GLAMOUR PORTRAIT - I am posting a fantastic set of glamour portraits of young women created in the 1920s. These photographs were sourced from a studio or studios in Detroit, MI and surroundings. These photographs are large, flat, clean and in truly excellent condition. Clearly the work of a skilled professional, the lighting in this photograph is soft and skillfully engineered. The lens provides sharpness to her eyes, lips and hair, while her rear shoulder is rendered softly. A really nice lens in the hands of a master practitioner. Photograph is in excellent condition with a signature of the photographer at the lower right (not shown since too large for my scanner). This is a fine example of 1920s style!

SOLD! - BRUCE WATER COMPANY WAGON, PITTSBURGH PA CIRCA 1899 - An exceptional mounted photograph of a mule-driven wagon used by the Bruce Water Company and Distilling Works in East End, Pittsburgh, PA circa 1899. The pencilled date on the verso states 1899 and I verified this date via a business directory from 1899-1900. Large and small glass bottles fill the back of the custom wagon. You can imagine how heavy this wagon would be fully loaded with water in glass bottles. Mules are boss! Super sharp with great contrast… this in my opinion is a stellar occupational photograph due to it showing the apparatus of the business, the product, the proprietor and the building itself with signage that allows us to locate and date the photograph. Photograph and mount are both in excellent condition. Great view of an early American distilling works and delivery wagon!

SOLD! - LUMBER MILL, NEW BRAINTREE, MA 1897 - Beautifully composed, mounted boudoir-format photograph of a lumber mill located in New Braintree, MA. Location and date of 1897 is identified on verso. The “boudoir” format, used primarily for wide landscape views, was used for approximately 10-15 years and is a particular favorite of mine due to the size and aspect ratio. Photograph and mount are both in excellent condition. A bit of rounding and chips at corners. Fantastic view of an early American lumber mill!
