It’s Friday baby! Race weekend officially begins this afternoon with our 5K race. It’s going to be a beautiful evening to start the festivities.

We had a couple of visitors yesterday who tried to get things started early 🦌 😂

Race Day Logistics for Runners and Volunteers! Here’s your Race Director tour, giving you a preview of where to go on race day and a recap below of some of the highlights:

Packet Pick-up: There will be 8 lines, organized by the first letter of your LAST name.

Pre-Ordered Shirt Pickup: NEW THIS YEAR - pre-ordered shirts will be picked up with your bib at the packet pickup line.

Bib Pins: these will be on a table to the right of packet pick-up. This should help keep packet pick-up lines moving quickly.

Day of Race Shirt Purchases: we have a limited supply of this year’s shirts available ($25), as well as last years shirts ($10) and hoodies ($40). Shirt purchases will be to the far right hand corner of the packet pick-up tent.

⚠️ Parking Notice for Saturday & Sunday. PLEASE READ & SHARE

Please plan to carpool and arrive early to the Saturday & Sunday events. As many of you know, our race is sold out and we expect parking to fill up. This year we also anticipate more general park users due to this amazing weather.

Please be considerate of our parking volunteers as they will be working to get people parked as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you are directed to the parking lot A or F, this video shows driving directions into those lots (purple arrows) as well as walking directions from parking lots A and F to the race start/finish area (orange arrows). We’ve also included a few pictures of the walking paths from those lots to the start/finish area. It’s approximately a half mile walk which will take you past South Falls Lodge to Creekside Pavilion which is where our start/finish area is.

Please do NOT park alongside of any of the roads leading into/in the park, we need to ensure emergency & other authorized vehicles can maneuver through the park as needed.

As a reminder, no need to obtain a parking pass for race day, we are handling that to ensure we keep traffic moving smoothly.

If you haven’t acquainted yourself with the course maps yet we encourage you to do so. We also recommend, especially for the longer distances, that you download a copy of the race map to your phone (if you plan to run with one), or print out a copy to have with you during the race.

Large poster-size maps will be displayed near packet pickup on race weekend but no individual printed copies with be available.

The course will be very well marked. We use mainly white flour on the ground to mark the course but you might also see a few signs at key junctions, yellow cones, as well as pink ribbon/flagging for some of the Marathon and 50K courses. That being said, anything can happen race weekend and leveraging the course markings, course maps, and reviewing the course maps in advance will all help ensure your race goes as smoothly as possible.

A few things you can do to orient yourself with the course in advance include: 1)take note of key landmarks, 2)make note of those landmarks relative to the starting line (hold these maps upright, as shown in this post, as if you are standing at the starting line), 3)take note of the trail names you’ll be running on, and 4)look for junctions and note whether you’ll be going left or right.

And as a final reminder, your watch/tracking device most likely will not align exactly with the course maps so enjoy the beautiful views and have fun along the way. Here is the official schedule for race weekend. The schedule highlights the following key points for each day/race:

⏰ When packet pickup opens each day (NOTE: Saturday morning packet pickup will be open for Saturday events ONLY)

As we head into race week we wanted to give an update on where all of our race participants are coming from. This year we have representation from 35 U.S. states and a handful of countries outside the U.S. Check out the map and list of states and countries.

Got out on the trails yesterday for some cleanup before race weekend. The trails are in excellent condition and weather is projected to be exceptional.

We caught this quick video to show you how the water crossing is looking for those who will be doing the 50K and Marathon. The creek is really low right now and there is an option to take the rocks across to try and keep your shoes dry. Just be careful as the rocks are a bit slippery and unstable in spots.

Such a great turnout today at our pre-race training run. We always enjoy this day so much, where we get to connect personally with a small group of runners before the whirlwind of our big race weekend. It truly means a lot to us. Join the race crew and other participants at South Falls Day use area CREEKSIDE park shelter (the race start/finish) and run the Half Marathon, 7 Miler and 5K courses. Trails will not be marked. Course maps available. There will be a lead runner for each distance. This will be a great way to get familiar with the courses before race day! This is a low-key run at a slower pace with a few breaks along the way. Park charges $10 for parking.

• Saturday October 3rd

• 8am Park Gates Open

• 8:15am Meet at South Falls Day Use Area (Creekside Shelter)

• 8:30am Group Photo and Training Run Start

• Distances: 5K, 7 Miler or Half Marathon

Autumn has arrived and the falls colors bring a whole new beauty to the park 🍂 🍃

We made it out to some of the back country this morning and trails are looking good.
