怰

怰

🪁 As part of their skin to sky residency, Silvi Naçi has invited participants to engage in various forms of play, as well as to co-author cyanotypes on silk and cotton, which were translated into kites during a collaborative workshop last month. Now, we invite you to come fly these kites with us (and to bring your own kites to fly!), to practice the transformational act of play together!

We will be gathering in a room at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica at noon to celebrate the many kinds of beautiful collaboration that Silvi has invited over the past three months — come read poems, revisit texts from previous programs, and enjoy some light snacks with us. We’ll move to the beach area right in front of the house at 1PM to gather, play, and fly kites together! RSVP in bio taken in Annenberg Community Beach House by @silvi.naci

🄳 It brings us great joy to invite you to come see Silvi’s work exhibited in the FCCW space! You can come see their show at FCCW starting this Wednesday, December 3, Wed-Sat, 10AM–5PM. Gather with us Saturday, December 13, from 3–5PM for a closing celebration of the show with drinks & snacks!

Throughout their residency, Silvi has woven together their academic practice, focused on body, archive, translation, care, and queer/feminist resistance, with their many art practices, from photography to beading, to elicit entry/departure into playful, new ways to interact, collaborate, and co-create.

Installed for your viewing pleasure are three large-scale beaded cyanotypes that Silvi made with their body in their homeland Albania, at a residency in Kumasi, Ghana, and at a residency in Portugal. The creation of these large-scale works inspired the Co-authoring Cyanotypes program they held at FCCW with queer people of color, their bodies and mementos. The Queering Kites workshop was an opportunity to turn these cyanotypes into kites that fly. These beautiful kites, which are also installed as part of the exhibit, embody the skin to sky ethos and Silvi’s hope, that through collaboration and play, we find the translations, transformations, and portals toward liberation. taken in Feminist Center for Creative Work by @silvi.naci

šŸ‚ You're invited to join Silvi Naçi and Dina Nazmi Khorchid for a workshop called marching on the dinner table on Sunday, Nov 23, 12–3PM at FCCW!

This workshop explores natural dyeing through the traditional celebratory Palestinian dish msakhan, reimagined on fabric, using onion skins, sumac, and pinecones — the same ingredients that flavor the dish. Participants will engage in eco-dyeing techniques that connect culinary and textile practices.

The intuitive process invites reflection on food culture, politics, collective resistance, and the transformative use of natural waste materials. The workshop will culminate in a shared ceremonial meal, where dyed fabrics and msakhan rolls march together on an aromatic dinner table, reclaiming collective acts of harvest and care. šŸŖ€ Join Silvi Naçi and Gabrielle Civil on Saturday, November 22, 2–5PM for recess — a Black feminist playground. Come materialize, shapeshift and play with us! Inspired by childhood games, steeped in Black feminist texts and values, and mindful of consent/access, we will create a portal to a happening, where participants can shift their body-mind-spirit from one state to another.

Jump ropes, dolls, cards, prompts, and board games will be available for traditional or transformed use. We will also have materials to draw, sculpt, paint, create dance routines and playlists, write scores, remix poems, and browse through Black feminist books.

What can the body in states of translation/recreation leave behind – what instructions – what wisdoms of connection? Here we will practice different ways of being in relation to disturb/unsettle the oppressive now and foster new possibilities for our collective future. Let’s have fun! All ages are welcome, and you can drop-in throughout the afternoon. Sign up in bio! taken in Feminist Center for Creative Work by @silvi.naci

🪁 Silvi Naçi’s skin to sky residency continues with queering kites this Saturday, Nov 8, 3–6PM at FCCW! This is an invitation to translate the collectively co-authored cyanotypes, made in previous workshops, into kites to fly. Translation is a central piece of Silvi’s practice and flows throughout the residency, specifically around how knowledge crosses borders from body to body, from land to land, skin to sky, transferring ways of being-with.

For Silvi, kites carry a distinct place in their memory. Having been raised in dictatorship in Albania, for them, kites carry an association with military surveillance and symbolize childhood play accessible only to boys. This is an opportunity to reclaim kite flying for play and for queers, and to weave together traditional craft practices with a community-based method of image-making. In this workshop, we will collectively learn how to make and fly kites, with technical fabrication support by Yaeun Stevie Choi. RSVP in bio!

ā˜€ļø As part of Silvi Naçi’s AIR project, skin to sky: radical play as resistance, they are offering three collaborative cyanotype workshops on Saturdays, Oct 18, Oct 25, Nov 1, from 11AM-2PM. We will transform the act of gathering, memory, and joy into a collective artwork — rooted in alternative photographic processes and guided by the spirit of communal making.

We warmly invite those who identify as queer and trans people of color to co-create a large-scale cyanotype — a luminous blueprint created through sunlight exposure — using our bodies and personally meaningful objects holding memory archived into them. The co-created cyanotypes will later be transformed into a series of hand-crafted kites, which will be assembled and flown together in a later participatory workshop.

Participants are asked to bring small, non-fragile objects that have distinct silhouettes, forms, shapes — they can also be organic bodies/shapes. Through this process, we’ll explore how the act of play can offer profound strategies for reimagining freedom, solidarity, and creative resilience.

Sign up in bio for the date that works best for you! And please keep in mind that we need sunlight to create the images, so be prepared to be in the sun! taken in Feminist Center for Creative Work by @silvi.naci

šŸ®This Saturday, October 11, 5–7:30PM come out to FCCW to make lanterns and share stories & mooncakes, led by artist Vickie Aravindhan, as part of Silvi Naçi's Artist in Residence project, skin to sky: radical play as resistance.

We will explore the ritual of creating simple candle lanterns similar to the ones Vickie used to play with growing up in Singapore, a tradition rooted in gathering, storytelling, and light.

Aravindhan and Naçi invite you to collectively share a space of reflection and joy, readings from selected texts, eating mooncake, and having tea together. Through this intimate gathering, we invite participants to consider how play, ceremony, and public art-making can be woven together to resist erasure, celebrate community, and illuminate shared histories. taken in Feminist Center for Creative Work by @silvi.naci
