Haunted Universities 3: Phee Take (2024) on Netflix Thailand, @netflixth

“We were aiming for a very classical but not super-obvious vintage look and feel, reminiscent of 90s US horror films like Scream (1996), but with a more modern, flamboyant, and expressive twist, à la Saltburn. That’s why we chose the classical Alexa Mini with the S35 sensor, but framed for open gate (1.5:1), and combined it with the T-Tuned BLACKWING7s and some glimmer glass filtration for creaminess, flares, falloff, and an overall painterly quality. I think we’re really happy with the results” - Simon Dat Vu

DP: Simon Dat Vu, @simondatvu

Last year we created something special - Deafened Giants - a film that I directed with the help of an amazing group of people, now out in the world and doing festival rounds.

It tells the story of Kai, a 12-year-old boy caught in an inescapable sea of noise, while separated from his mother. His ordeal mirrors the marine creatures’ struggles with the underwater noise pollution that jeopardises their survival and is one of the most underappreciated environmental issues of our time.

You can catch Deafened Giants at these festivals:
- Cinemare International Ocean Film Festival in May in Kiel 🇩🇪 @cinemare_kiel
- Mexico Surf Film Festival in March in La Saladita 🇲🇽 @mexicosurffilmfestival

And I just heard that we made the long list at 1.4 Awards Planet Positive 🇬🇧 @_onepointfour 🤩 fingers crossed for the short list now 🤞😆

More festival news on the way.

This wouldn’t exist without these amazing people who made it possible for me to bring this vision to the screen. Thank you for your talent, hard work, and for just being so wonderfully kind ❤️
