We’ve been climbing a mountain of grief
It came out of the blue
Theres not been a moment
To see thru
This white hot grief

He was like a son and a best buddy
And in a few seconds he was gone
My golden boy made a reckless dash
And the wheels of a car took his life

And he died right in front of me

We laid him on the grass
His blood is still there tonight

We are bereft with grief
I don’t think I ever loved
Anybody as much

He was such a pure spirit
And I let him live so
Only coming in the house
When he finally let go of the night
And came home

I can’t believe he’s gone
It’s all pain
He was the morning
And the evening

His spirit was such
That you would feel honored
Just to be near him

It felt like he knew all that
I could spend
A lifetime missing
And I’d do better
To just watch and observe

He was Prince of the Night
And my best friend
I will never stop loving you
