I’ve been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work lately — updating products and giving my website a little refresh — and I finally get to share the thing I’m most excited about…

My DIY Language Arts Guide is here. 💛

It will show you how to teach language arts simply and naturally through great books, one meaningful passage at a time. If you want LA to feel connected, gentle, and doable… this is for you.

📘 What language arts truly is (so you can teach it with clarity)
📘 How to build meaningful LA lessons from any book
📘 A gentle weekly rhythm you can actually keep
📘 How to teach spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and writing through short passages
📘 My best examples, tips, and planning pages
📘 The simple method that makes LA feel meaningful — not stressful

Comment APPLE for the link 🍎🍏

Apple-themed learning is my favorite because it can be quite simple to throw together, especially when apples are in season.

These books are so sweet and each unit comes with guided lessons, but they also come with an outdoor activity and a bonus activity to do with each book!

This gives you the freedom to dive deeper into these great stories or just enjoy them with a few enriching activities.

I have the sweetest memories of Apple learning with my kiddos and I hope this can bring your family sweet memories too 🍎❤️🍏 by @simply.learning.together

Last week I shared a look at what our full schedule is looking like right now in our homeschool.

Funny thing is over the weekend I was already thinking of ways to change things to make the tougher subjects run a bit smoother. So I’ll be playing with that this week.

I’ll bet six weeks from now our day looks completely different 😆 but it keeps our days interesting! I think it’s proof that you really can’t be glued to one schedule. Flexibility is important.

One photo I forgot to save is our night time routine. We love finishing the day with a family devotion and a read aloud. We are currently reading Little House on the Prairie. Weeks get busy and this doesn’t happen every day but I do try to aim for 3-4 nights a week.

I love looking at other homeschool days because it gives me so many ideas. As I mentioned, this scheduled still needs work, but I hope sharing can provide you with a little inspiration ❤️ by @simply.learning.together

Comment CAMPING for a link to this bundle 🏕️

These units are made for your littlest ones (grades K-2) but the books can be enjoyed with the whole family.

Nothing excites me in these early years like a good theme. It always leads us to memorable activities, recipes, and experiences, and when it connects us to literature as a family the lessons become even more meaningful.

If you’re looking to add some picture books into your homeschool that can connect to intentional activities or lessons, you don’t want to miss this.

More bundles coming soon. The Apple Bundle will be released in a couple weeks to make September a month filled with Apple stories! 🍎🍏 by @simply.learning.together

“So, how do you feel about William Ashby?”

My daughter caught me off guard with this question sitting in the car on the way to an activity yesterday.

I thought for a second trying to remember why I know this name, and then it hit me. It’s a character in the book her and I are currently reading, The Witch of Blackbird Pond.

This is a dreamy conversation for a literature-loving homeschool mom like myself. We casually chatted about Ashby’s character and the lifestyle at the time, which then led to more conversation about other characters and the challenges they are facing so far in the book.

Hello, natural worksheet-free character analysis. 😉

This is the first year I’ve set independent reading goals with specific literature for my older kids. I had a hard time committing to it, because we mostly read these classic stories out loud together.

Trying not to miss out on this, I decided to listen to this book on audio while she read it independently. I know I won’t have time to listen along and keep up with every novel, but if I can read one or two to chat about with her every so often, I know it will be worth it.

A simple conversation about William Ashby reminded me that connecting over literature can be so much deeper than worksheets. A worksheet has a place, but I look forward to so many more car trip chats in the future. The fact that I get to catch up on great stories I missed out on as a kid is a bonus!

A few of you reached out to me recently saying you loved listening to the books your older kids are reading. Share some of your favorites in the comments! ⬇️

I have a few on my list to try this year, but I’d love to add more! by @simply.learning.together

Sometimes we can put a lot of pressure on ourselves to have it all figured out.

This year I planned a slower start thinking it would help us ease into the school year, but in the process I realized it did so much more.

-We could build solid home routines in the morning and evening to act as pillars to our day
-The extra time in our day allowed me to see what could actually get accomplished and how much time it would take
-Now, we slowly add things in and adjust accordingly

The night before our first day of school I was almost confused how ordinary the day was going to feel, but that’s what is so great about it. It’s a lifestyle we can slowly build as it best fits our family.

Still no set schedule. We are working out a few bumps, but it’s nice to be able to do this without feeling the pressure of getting it all done as well.

If you’re overwhelmed about making a schedule, consider starting a bit slower. I’ve enjoyed adding things one week at a time, but even taking it one day at a time could be helpful.

Making a loose schedule for your day is fine, but don’t be glued to it. New year, new subjects, new lessons - this will take time to figure out. by @simply.learning.together

Turn story time into meaningful language arts instruction with this simple, open-and-go picture book study built around Jerry Pinkney’s retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

This unit is designed for real family connection over great books - No lesson planning required.

Simply read, talk, and let one story open the door to narration practice, vocabulary growth, spelling and grammar foundations, and a love of language that lasts.

These simple traditions take minimal prep, and I think that’s what makes them so easy to do again and again.

✏️ letter from mom
✏️ personal pack of gum (a tried-and-true favorite)
✏️ first day photos
✏️ afternoon treat

These things have varied over the years. For example, sometimes the treat is a simple bowl of ice cream after dinner. But this time we went out for something new. We’ve spent the summer introducing the kids to cereals, foods, and treats we grew up on…. You know - the stuff they say is bad for you now 😆😜 and Frosty and fries was next on the list!

We had a great first day! We planned for a slow start with just math and bible and finished by 11. Feels good to get going again!

Share with me your favorite first day tradition!! 👇👇 by @simply.learning.together

I’m so grateful for the break we had ❤️❤️

But with everything ready to go, our homeschool routine is sounding so lovely.

Starting super slow next week which keeps the pressure low and still allows us a ton of flexibility to enjoy more of summer. by @simply.learning.together
