A lot of design moments in the atelier as a fashion designer look like this, in the process. Spending hours, days or even months working and thinking though experiments and constructions for the product you are designing. Persisting through moments of frustration to progress to pure joy. Your heart is in it, you are making more than just a product...

¡Salseros, si llaman, yo vengo! 🎺💃🏽

The summer I became a full time salsera, it’s a lifestyle now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Some of my favourite dances weren’t even filmed but a time was had.

The beautiful thing about dancing salsa is that it brings people together from different cultures & backgrounds, but on the dance floor we all speak the same language.

Draping is my main approach to designing and a technique I love to teach: I call it “drawing with fabric”, especially for designers who are not yet confident illustrating their ideas in 2D. Working in 3D means you land not just a finished design, but resolved construction too.

I always tell my students: fashion is architecture for the body. Pairing creative exploration with technical construction is how you take a design from your head into the real world.

A peek into my classroom teaching womenswear draping course at Central Saint Martins. ✨

Designing in 3D is an essential skill for any fashion designer or creative to learn, since we design for real bodies in all shapes and sizes, that need function as well as form.

Watching students trust their design instincts, grow in confidence, and find their own approach in the process while building the technical knowledge of pattern-cutting and garment technology construction skills to actually produce what they design is the most rewarding part of teaching.

I teach these courses each year with @ualshortcourses , including Draping Womenswear Design and Creative Draping, alongside other fashion design courses at Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion. Details on the UAL website if you’d like to join a future cohort.

I designed a short summer course teaching Fashion Design Basics to 11-15 year olds @unioftheartslondon London College of Fashion. Having worked with this age group before, it was an experience I thoroughly enjoyed, taking me back to the initial joys of design.

The main focus was exploring how research informs our design process as creatives, enabling us to create several designs that form a cohesive collection. We looked at how research fuels original ideas, how mood boarding and collaging shape a collection and used draping as a design visualisation tool.

Exploring different media and design experimentation techniques gave students the freedom to work between 2D and 3D, honing in on the skills best suited to their individual strengths. Fashion design often leans heavily on 2D, but as a designer who finds I realise my ideas best in 3D, I wanted to share this with students so they could experience a different approach to design.

Every student created interesting, unique designs inspired by their own research and interests and according to their feedback, designing on mannequins in 3D was the most enjoyed and appreciated part. Look at the amazing work my students created and they are only getting started!

If you’d love to explore different techniques in the fashion design process and push your boundaries in design, join one of my fashion design short courses held each year at @ualshortcourses ✨ taken in London College of Fashion by @sincerely.salima

Back from my first summer camp! A couple days outside London, camping in a field with churches from all over the UK, all just to focus on Jesus together.🙌🏽

Focus 2026, you were amazing. Worship, games, dancing, daily sermons, talks, prayer walks, good food, getting creative, adding fuel to the fire, it was everything. The joy of the Lord was really our strength, honestly, you just had to be there. I barely picked up my phone the whole time because I was too busy being present for it all, so this is just a few moments pieced together from friends and family’s camera rolls. 📸✨ by @sincerely.salima

Being able to create a wardrobe of timeless pieces I love and return to again and again has been one of the great joys of being a fashion designer. As a designer with a strong focus on both the technical as well as the design, this piece, though simplistically elegant took time to perfect for a prêt-à-porter collection. I’m so in love with the fit, the fabric, the texture and the versatility, and I can speak from five years of wearing this design myself.

I am confident that the women who need these pieces in their rotation will be grateful they found them. I now present this to you as SALIMA.ALI prêt-à-porter. A luxury essential because every day is a special occasion. 🤍✨

Designing my own jewellery piece has been such an exciting and rewarding experience one where I’ve learnt so much and tapped into a new area of my creativity. As someone who has always loved statement earrings, creating one of my own feels surreal.

I’m so proud of myself for finally bringing this idea to life, and even more excited to share it with you all. Creating a jewellery piece that complements my fashion designs so perfectly has been incredibly special and I truly love how it turned out.

I’m so happy that the Ardour earring is finally out in the world and I can’t wait to see all the beautiful ways ladies style it and make it their own. For all the ladies that have been asking it’s finally here, a d can officially be yours. ✨
