If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that lot of my poems are actually prayers + conversations with God. I found this one + am thankful I’m in a place in which I forgot I ever wrote it. Think that’s called healing. 🙌🏾 If nothing else, I’m sharing this for that person who thinks they’re the only one dealing with issues of lust + the confusion that comes with it. Many of us have been vulnerable to a beautiful smile or the right biceps. You are not alone. Continue to trust God for your better. Continue to have faith that more awaits. Tonight, I’m reading: John 3:16 (ofc), Psalm 117, Psalm 118, Psalm 136, Psalm 139, Romans 8:27-30. Here are two scriptures that remind us that God’s love is eternal simply by the way God seeks relationship with us. Psalm 139:1 reads: “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.” (But, I encourage you to read the entire chapter.) “And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified” (Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭27‬-‭30‬). ‭ —Sincerely, Tyra 💕 “Afterwards” God, I thank You for healing. Thank You for forgiveness. Thank You for changed behavior; for wisdom. Thank You for seeing us through to the other side. Thank You for nights when I was confused + alone, beside a spirit that wanted me to betray You Full of deceit + lust + longing, I frolicked away from You, hand in hand with him. Thank You for protection then + now. God, I thank You that wrongs covered in sin were turned right with Your love. Thank You because I was lost + and found again. Episode 4 | Unrelenting Faith The word 'unrelenting' means "extremely determined, never weakening, or continuing without stopping; unwavering determination." Coupled with the function of faith, unrelenting faith is a stance, an action of courage + the ability to never stop believing that you are capable of seeing the dreams that God has placed on your heart! Of course, there have been times when I have been scared + my faith was lacking or times when I didn't have any faith at all. But, I decided a long time ago that I didn't want to live in a lack mindset. Now, I have many goals + dreams that God has placed within me! And, I can see the end goal of each one of them every time I close my eyes. Sure doubt may come, but then I come back to my senses 😆... Y'all know I believe that what God has for me is set aside just for me. That's just how my faith works! It's unrelenting in that way. As I compete to become the next Top Host (@vote.tophost) with @iheartradio + @ryanseacrest, I see myself sitting across from this man having the BEST conversation. I see myself creating a series of beautifully-themed conversations + chats with five people whose stories simply have to be shared with the world! The world will try to make you feel like you’re in the wilderness + separated from God’s love. You’re not. Remember, the Holy Spirit is wherever you invite Him. Take your time, set the atmosphere, breathe. When I want something really badly + it doesn’t go my way, it’s ALWAYS because God has something BETTER than what I wanted. I wanted love—but God wanted a better love. I thought I wanted that job—but God had a better opportunity. I wanted 10 kids—God knew better! (Thankfully! 😆) And, the one I have mixed with the ones I’ve been able to impact are more than enough! Episode 2 | My First Live Radio Interview In the last episode, I talked about my love of Chicago DJs + listening to the radio, in general. So chileeee when Community Resource Queen, Natalie Watson, and her boss multiple-award-winning, Dr. Doriane Miller, invited me to be a special guest on her weekly WVON segment "Community Health Focus Hour," I was giddy! You hear me! First of all, I never seen the inside of a real radio station! I'd always tried to dial into the Birthday Line of @ WGCI--but apparently it's HELLA December babies in Chicago 😆😭. Being invited to share space as a content expert with Dr. Doriane Miller, Dr. Sonya Dinzulu, + Ernest Sanders was a real eye-opening experiencing for me as I was able to add it to my resume (obviously 💁🏾‍♀️) + learn a lil something about what it takes to produce a quality radio show + get it on the air! Anyhoo, the passion is still there! And, I’d love the chance to host + the creative director of FIVE completely new podcast episodes. If I win this contest, I can do that, meet the TV host, OG, @ryanseacrest + maybe earn a lil coin, too! Again, thanks for everyone who voted thus far. Episode 1 | How I Started Podcasting When my friend, sista, the entrepreneurial mind that is @msjackie112 Jackie Eadie invited me to co-host a podcast with her, I had no idea where it would lead us. But, I trusted her vision + knew we would have fun along the way! Back then, we hosted an array of podcasts guests—or people who we like to call—Content Experts to talk about youth + violence across Chicago, empowering Black youth, the low numbers of Black male teachers in Black neighborhoods, and so much more! Y’all know I value those conversations + the time we shared with our special guests—and the candidness shared between my co-host and I! (Jackie and I are a lil crazy sometimes lol) So, I just wanted to share a quick thank you to her + God for placing me in the room with her! And, thanks to everyone who has responded to my texts + initial Facebook post about the @iheartradio TopHost competition with ya boy, @ryanseacrest! Sidebar: I grew up watching American Idol! This is an excerpt of a prayer I wrote in 2020. Re-reading it, it feels like I could’ve written it this week. Praying it reminds you to surrender that battle—whatever it is—back to God. 💕 God, we are in the midst of warfare: on Your people, on the physical land, and within ourselves. Remind us that even this battle is not ours + that we have no other help but You. Yahweh, Father, Protector, Provider, Way-Maker, Comforter, Master, Creator, My God, Our Friend we need YOU. We think we are cool + that we can handle it all, God. But You know that we are really weak in some places. Fill our voids, Father. Let us lay at Your feet for a moment, Father God. Breathe on us + let us empty out our troubles on Your altar, today, Lord. We have had enough of trying to handle it all. We are giving it back to You: Every trouble, Every injustice, Every hurt caused by an external source, Every futile weapon of the enemy, Every wound inflicted by our own good intentions, Every internal struggle, Every assignment You have given us, And every gift You put at our disposal. We love You, Father + want to make You happy. Prepare us for what is coming next, God. Take our insecurities + heal them. Take our tired bones that have been dried + withered + refuel them with Your Holy Spirit. We need renewed energy, Father. Can we bask in the glow of Your presence for a moment? Rain down on us as only Your anointing can. Make our hearts pure. Make our desires align with Yours. Mold us to be more like Your Son. You are the source. Keep us enduring + professing Your love, Father God. God, I come praying for those is leadership who need direction + peace. Those that feel lost during this time. Connect with the again, Lord. Don’t let them end each day feeling depleted. Remind them that they are loved + supported. Give them rest when they feel they cannot endure any longer if only to pull on Your strength for their weakness + shame them not. It’s a lot of people vying for my attention right now. I just want to spend time with You. Grant us all peace in the presence of calamity.
