POSTS STORIES REELS

We are pleased and amazed to say that our documentary All About the Money will screen in the World Documentary competition in Sundance.

I think this film will surprise a lot of people and it is blessed with a group of fascinating participants.

We can’t wait to share it in Utah in January though we must finish it first. We’re currently here in Dublin with raygun working around the clock.

I want to take the opportunity to pay tribute to some of the incredible collaborators who have helped make this film happen.

It’s quite rare these days to chase around the place with a cameraperson and a hunch and I don’t think anybody else would have been as willing or as able as Enda O’Dowd for the past few years. This really was a tough shoot and I’m very grateful to both him and Simon Crowe who came in at vital points.

I also want to thank the composer George Brennan. I went to his house ten days ago and asked him to score our rough cut and come up with 40 cues. As of tonight, he has 38 done.

Thanks Claire McCabe and Katie Holly who have been incredible here in Ireland and apologies again to Katie for dragging her away from her maternity leave and thank you to our brilliant colleagues from Real Lava - Sigrid Dyekaer and Harry Vaughn, Jacques Petersen, Eleanor Emptage and Maya Derrington. Huge cheers also to Screen Ireland for their inspiring support. by @sineadeoshea

Our world premiere of Blue Road - The Edna O’Brien Story. Thank you to everyone who came and made it so special 💚 by @sineadeoshea

Bittersweet that Blue Road- The Edna O’Brien Story will have its world premiere at Toronto Film Festival this year but it is also what Edna, the team and I have been working so hard to do - to give her one last say.

We are very honoured to be part of this line up. There are some brilliant films here.

More news to come. We are still finishing.

Congrats to my wonderful colleagues including @clairemarymccabe @eleanor_emptage @thekatieholly @kathrynferguson @pudnerobraonain @richardkendrickdop @eoinmcl @claireban @garethantonaverill @endajodowd Gretta Ohle Barbara Broccoli and Jack Oliver 💚 by @sineadeoshea

All about the Money is screening in Irish and UK cinemas from today.

This is not a very black or white film and is tricky to share in such polarised times so please try and see it sooner rather than later.

I want to thank all the participants and I hope it is clearer amongst those who see it why I don’t understand the current charges against Fergie Chambers.

I also want to thank all our collaborators especially Enda O’Dowd -there from the start with my ten month old and still here today and Screen Ireland.

All About The Money has had a lot of screenings recently and London Film Festival was a surprising highlight.

Thank you to all who came especially our host @film_leigh and one of my heroes Clio Barnard whose brilliant film I see Buildings Fall like lightning was the standout for so many people including me.

It was especially good to be there with @thekatieholly and @endajodowd - the best comrades and my closest collaborators over so many years now.

Our film opens in Dublin and across Irish cinemas on Friday. Una Mullally will host a Q&A in @lighthousecinema which is nearly sold out so pls book soon.

I appreciated her great article today about messy truth telling and the potency of documentary to deliver in these partisan times 🇮🇪

@gazascholarsie have made these posters and provided text for those who would like to help the 58 students in Gaza who won full scholarships to Irish universities and are trying to secure visas.

At the moment, most of those visas have been refused - the refusal rate for Palestinian study visas rose from 13% last year to 83% this year - and their appeals are still pending. They are waiting in a war zone, where every day of delay is a day their lives are at risk.

Their courses begin in early November, and even after a visa is granted they still need an exit from Gaza and security clearances.

The Taoiseach and the Minister for Justice should expedite these appeals before 15 October and use the discretion Ireland used last year.

There is lots more information on the @gazascholarsie website which is linked on their page. by @sineadeoshea

Above is a still from All About The Money. I’ve been asked many questions about the extradition case of our main participant Fergie Chambers over the last two months and I’ve discussed it with his legal team. I don’t know much more than has been reported. It doesn’t make sense to me and it doesn’t align with what I saw while I was filming. I hope he is freed soon and can return to his family.

We’ll be doing a first Dublin screening of All About The Money as part of the IFI documentary festival on Saturday. I’ll have a conversation about the film afterwards with Mark O’Connell. The upcoming festival screenings are marked below. The London Film Festival screenings are sold out but there will be more opportunities to see the film in the UK and Ireland soon when the film is released.

Tirana FF - Sept 24th
Dublin Doc Fest - Sept 26th
Calgary FF - Sept 26th, Oct 3rd
Lunenburg FF - Sept 27th
New Hampshire FF - Oct 15th - 17th
BFI London FF - Oct 17th/18th by @sineadeoshea

It was Brenda Fricker’s funeral today.

She was a neighbour in the Liberties though we never spoke. I was asked last year to write about her memoir, She Died Young and afterwards, I wished I had said something because her life left such an impression on me.

She wrote about acting, drinking, abuse, grooming, the countryside, her family and Ireland. It’s harrowing and funny. It’s also a reminder that a truthful memoir is rare. There is little that is black or white in her account of things which is difficult to accept and makes it a great book.

Her funeral today was also funny and truthful. Nobody pretended she was a saint. So many people had been touched by her. All the Liberties came out and clapped her down Meath Street. At the end, as the coffin was being brought out, Jailhouse Rock began, it was another jolt, and everyone clapped along. by @sineadeoshea

Coming soon to a cinema near you. 👀

Ahead of its Irish Premiere at @galwayfilm this Saturday, Break Out Pictures has acquired the rights to release award-winning documentary All About the Money in Irish cinemas.

Directed by acclaimed documentary maker Sinéad O'Shea, the film debuted at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year - and received acclaim for its gripping, nuanced and thought-provoking exploration of wealth, power, privilege and ideology. Through the extraordinary story of billionaire heir turned revolutionary Fergie Chambers, All About The Money is a thought-provoking exploration of wealth, power, privilege and ideology. by @sineadeoshea

Katie Holly isn’t going to be in @galwayfilm for our Irish premiere of All About The Money so I want to give her the admiration she deserves for the work she did on that film and all our previous films.

I think it is only in the last few years I’ve begun to understand how much there is to the business of film producing. It can be extractive and labyrinthine and tough on creative people who don’t have compatible backgrounds. I first asked her for help after years of shooting and editing on A Mother Brings Her Son to Be Shot. I knew I had a film but couldn’t see how to progress it within the industry. Though young, she was already one of the most respected producers in the country. Since then, Katie has been negotiating contracts, rewriting mails, creating budgets and talking and listening, endlessly, all while running her own huge productions. I don’t know where I’d be without her.

This last year has been eventful for us both. In the midst of much upheaval she managed to be an incredible friend and colleague. I am very grateful 💚💚💚 🙏 by @sineadeoshea

A picture with Niamh Fagan, my executive producer from @screenireland since 2022. She helped me finish Pray for Our Sinners and was there from the start with me on Blue Road - The Edna O’Brien Story when I didn’t have a crew or even Edna herself.

For nearly three years, All About the Money was just @endajodowd , Niamh and I. Enda and I were able to shoot and edit all over the world with her support.

Since Sundance, one of the most common responses is disbelief that the film was made at all. For various reasons, it used to be hard to make documentaries in Ireland but I think that’s changing and a lot is due to Niamh.

We’re now bringing the film home for a screening in @galwayfilm 🇮🇪 In the final months of the production we were lucky enough to be joined by some amazing talents from both here and abroad including George Brennan, Katie Holly, Harry Vaughn, Claire McCabe, Sigrid Dyekjaer, Maya Derrington, @aladegaard and esp the team at Raygun - Andy Kirwan, @leandroaroucacolourist and Michael Dowling, and I hope as many of them as possible can come and take a bow.

Congrats to @charlenelydon for programming a great festival. I also recommend American Doctor by @pohsiteng and Joybubbles by @rachaeljmorrison1 who are the two of many wonderful people I’ve met at festivals these past few months 💚
