Happy New Year! As we give thanks for the old and look forward to the new, let’s take a look at the first piece of art from the Sinister Wisdom 2026 calendar.

Pictured is Arden Eversmeyer's pin collection by Meghan McDonough @mmcdonough3

The piece is a film still from Old Lesbians, shown this past October in New York City at the 2025 Lesbian Lives Conference. About the history of the film, Meghan says, “Old Lesbians honors Arden's legacy by animating the resilient, joyful voices she preserved in the Old Lesbian Oral Herstory Project, from first crush to first love, from the closet to coming out, and finally from loss to connection.”

Meghan McDonough is a filmmaker and journalist who directs and edits documentary shorts and series to better understand our world. She won Aesthetica/Audible’s Listening Pitch in 2023 to fund her documentary short Old Lesbians, which was featured on the 2024 IDA Documentary Awards Best Short Documentary Shortlist, commissioned by The Guardian, and has screened at institutions, community centers, and film festivals around the world, including the California State Capitol, the British Film Institute, and the American LGBTQ+ Museum. Meghan has worked as a staff video journalist at Quartz and a producer/editor at NBCUniversal Local. Her freelance work has also appeared in Scientific American, Thomson Reuters Foundation, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, and more, and has been supported by the Pulitzer Center. She received her BA in Film and Media Studies from Amherst College.

Since our inception in 1976, Sinister Wisdom has remained committed to amplifying the voices of all marginalized people and speaking out against injustice everywhere. This support has always included the Palestinian people. As we bear witness to the atrocities happening to the Palestinian people in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli Occupation Forces, it is important we reaffirm our support and speak out against this oppression.

This post aims to show our solidarity by sharing materials published by Sinister Wisdom either written by Palestinians, about the occupation, or about the necessity of protest as a tool for liberation. We hope you will take the time to read through these materials and take action to show your support and call for an immediate ceasefire and end of the occupation of Palestine.

All of the materials included in these slides can be found at SinisterWisdom.org/Archive.

i am so excited to share the completed, beautiful, 2027 sinister wisdom calendar!! 🌟❤️‍🔥💧🌀

this is my fourth and final year curating/designing the calendar and i couldn’t be more ecstatic that this year’s celebrates new lesbian photography while paying homage to The Blatant Image, a magazine of feminist photography that published three issues between 1981 and 1983. Published by Rootworks, a womyn’s land group in Oregon, The Blatant Image challenged photographers to create images that explored lesbian-feminist issues and resisted heteropatriarchal stereotypes.

The images within this calendar expand on these ideas by exploring both lesbian imagination and lesbian reality. Some experiment with abstraction, materiality, and invention. Others document our communities plainly: life in its ordinary, mundane beauty. Collectivley, these artists remind us that photography is never a fixed medium— and lesbianism is never a fixed category.

Truly thank you endlessly to all of the included artists @jsp_icer @yvelizra @sophiabcutino @morgan__elena @thechromaticsheep @andinamarieosorio @alinabalseiroart @a8lia @shiaconlon @camille.lenain @photofelli @tomorrowblakechapman 🩷🩷🩷 thank you to JEB (Joan E. Biren) @jebmedia for allowing me to include a wonderful quote from her essay “Seeing Through Our Own Eyes” which was originally published in The Blatant Image no. 1 (and of which ive included two screenshots in this spread). lastly i have to, of course, give thanks to Julie Enszer @julierenszer for her trust and to everyone at Sinister Wisdom who has helped produce, layout, promote, and celebrate the calendar.

If you’re interested copies are available for purchase via the link in @sinister_wisdom’s bio or their website :-) by @sinister_wisdom

The contributions of Latina/e lesbians along borders have critically reshaped the ways we think, write, mobilize, and create around our lived experiences as queer people who exist across multiple intersections. We recognize that lesbian and queer borderlands legacies go beyond the U.S.-México borderlands to places like the Dominican Republic/Haiti, Palestine, and other regions with histories of settler colonialism. Our Malflora members have distinct roots to Texas-México fronteriza/e communities, where the works of lesbianas like Lucía Martinez, Yolanda Chávez Leyva, Nancy Lorenza Green, Anel I. Flores (@aneliflores), Fabi Reyna (@suavecito_91), Gloria Anzaldúa, and so many others have radically modeled to us what art, care, and queer liberation can look like. We honor them in our work and in our commitments to imagining our homelands beyond the borders that have been imposed upon them. ⋆˚꩜。

Today’s Malflora Collective takeover post focuses on Black/Afro-Latina, Latin American, and Caribbean lesbians whose collective histories, lives, and bodies of work center decolonial Afro-feminist struggles and radical visions for liberation. While visibility is only a small fraction of this work, we uplift the lives and work of Juanita Díaz-Cotto (Ramos), Ochy Curiel, Cidinha Da Silva, Ana-Maurine Lara, and Lidia Rodrigues together to emphasize a transborder lineage of Black/Afro-Latina lesbians devoted to anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist, and decolonial liberation informed by ancestral African traditions and migration across borders.

We encourage viewers to read and engage the works of each writer and artist briefly introduced here and challenge mainstream representations of Latinidad and lesbianism formed around whiteness.

Malflora Podcast is a podcast series of pláticas, or community dialogues, with Latina/e lesbians and queers co-hosted by Meagan Solomon, Alexandra Nichole Salazar, and Mariana Meriqui Rodrigues of Malflora Collective. Episodes serve as oral histories of featured guests, who share their stories in conversation with one or more co-hosts. The practice of exchanging stories and knowledge through conversation (plática y roda de conversa) is an ancestral tradition familiar to many Indigenous, African, Chicane, Latine, Caribbean, and Latin American communities. Malflora Collective activates this cultural, dialogic practice to archive Latina/e lesbian and queer histories online.

Swipe through for previews of published episodes featuring Lydia Otero (lydiaotero.com) and Fedella Lizeth (@fedellalizeth).

🎧 Listen to full podcast episodes at malflora.org/podcast or your favorite podcast streaming platform, and reach out to us @malfloraco or malfloracollective@gmail.com if you want to be featured on the podcast!

As a podcast about the history of lesbian* bars, Our Dyke Histories has to chime in on the drama surrounding the viral closure of Last Ditch in Massachusetts.

The response to the closure reveals something about our current political climate. In the long history of lesbian life in America – aka since and before the U.S. was founded – lesbian spaces are often targeted by various political regimes as the enemy. Lately, it’s been trans people who are the true targets of annihilation by Republicans and, lately, many Democrats too. But lesbians are a target to mock and kick, to close down and out, to belittle in the meantime for trying to live a politics that doesn’t suck and, in the meantime, not being able to sustain even a bar. by @sinister_wisdom
