How do you find a style and create a world for your animated film? ✨
To be completely honest, I had no idea when we started this project, but in our experience, it amounted to lots of trial and error, studying and referencing!

For our soupy world, we were going for something out of this world and alien-like. There’s not a lot of noodle soup environments out there to reference so that quickly became a challenge. I have way too many noodle soup photos that I took for reference and we also have a channel dedicated to soup pictures, which helped! 🍜 😄

This shot was the prototype for the background art of this part of the film. It took a looooong time and lots of different versions to get right!
The funny part is, once I thought we were done with it (bottom image), in order to make the film more cohesive, It had to be reworked.
Tasks like this can become frustrating at the time, but in the end it helped with solidifying not just this shot but the whole film. I am very glad we did it!

Since a lot of us are doing our own projects, I thought this process would be a fun and interesting thing to share as one of the challenges we have faced so far! We would love to hear your experiences as well and let us know if you’d like to see more of our earlier concepts and ideas :)

Big shoutout to @threeninefour for the colour script and always pushing for the best possible outcome for each shot and also to all the other background artists in this film!

Here is another shot from ‘Tom Yum Punch’, the film we are making @sipsoupstudio ! I wish i could share the animatic edit, but we’ll share it in full soon!

We have such wonderful work done by a multitude of different artists, including boards, layouts, animation, bg paint and now even with some comp starting! I am biased ofc but please believe me. The soup is cooking!! :)

I had the immense pleasure of painting this background from the BEAUTIFUL layout done by @duruushii . Lucy has added so much character, personality and life to this environment that made painting it nothing but a privilege! Also, I cannot wait for you to see the same shot with @blackjingertee ‘s animation on it! (it’s fantastic)

We will keep sharing work and updates soon! :)

at last... THE MAIN CHARACTER!!! blessing your feed today with some RAMEN!!!! 🍜
The placement of the ingredients in this bowl is actually quite important, not only do they need to look yummy, but they have to match their counterparts in the Soup World™ from the first half of our film! Need enough space for an anime battle in here..

This lovely ramen was designed by @kibblez.z !!
