The new @bardstownbourbonco Victoria Pineapple Barrel Finish has completely split the whiskey community, and people are taking sides.

Which side are you on??

This isn’t your average flavored whiskey. This is a blend of 10- and 11-year-old bourbon and rye, finished for an extensive 27 months in Caribbean pineapple rum casks with actual Victoria pineapples and oak staves added directly in the barrel.

Some purists say adding fruit crosses the line into liqueur territory. Others argue it’s a masterclass in innovative wood finishing. Throw in a $139.99 price tag, an ultra-rare 350-case run restricted entirely to Kentucky, and you have the most controversial drop of the summer.

So, where do you stand? Is this a bold boundary-pusher worth the hype, or is the pineapple in the barrel going too far? Even if the rum barrels may have gone through the same exact process first… taken in Los Angeles, California by @sipsurvey

THE LEGEND IS BACK.

Wild Turkey just dropped the highly anticipated Austin Nichols Archives: Gold Foil Edition, and it lives up to the myth.

For the uninitiated, this is a massive throwback to the legendary “Cheesy Gold Foil” (CGF) 12-Year/101-proof bottles from 1985–1992. Those vintage dusties are holy grails for collectors, famous for a deep, funky oak and leather profile that modern bourbon rarely matches (and they easily command $2,500+ today).

This new 2026 tribute release takes history a step further. Crafted by Bruce Russell, it’s a 16-year-old, 120-proof powerhouse.

MSRP: $400 (Expect to pay a premium if you find it on shelves)

When you host as much as I do you have cocktails batched and ready to serve.

Let’s make a batched Old Fashioned

How to:
- Pour 4oz out of a bottle of bourbon or rye (preferably 100+ proof)
- add 3oz of a rich simple syrup
- add 24 dashes of Angostura Bitters
- add 12 dashes of Orange Bitters @scrappysbitters

Store in a cool dry place.

To Serve:
Pour 2.5oz over a large cube
Garnish with Lemon, Orange and @luxardousa cherries.

ENJOY!

Key Steps to Whiskey Tasting Like a Pro:

Use Proper Glassware: A tulip-shaped Glencairn glass concentrates aromas at the rim, enhancing the sensory experience.

Observe the Appearance: Examine the color and viscosity. Swirl the whiskey to observe the “legs” running down the sides, which indicate body and oiliness.

The “Nose” (Smell): Do not dive in with a deep breath like wine. Gently waft the aroma, keeping your mouth slightly open to reduce the alcohol burn on your senses. Try to identify notes from the bottom, middle, and top of the glass.

Take Small Sips: Let the first sip act as a “primer” to get your palate used to the alcohol strength.
“Chew” the Whiskey: Take a second, small sip and let it coat your entire tongue and inside of your mouth to experience the texture, weight, and flavor profile (sweetness, spice, smoke).

Add Water: Adding a few drops of water can reduce the alcohol content and release subtle, masked aromas, making the tasting experience better.

Evaluate the Finish: Focus on the sensation and taste that lingers after you swallow, noting whether it is long, short, smooth, or fiery
