6 years ago vs. today

Educating myself further into my skill set every year isn’t so that I can get a set done in an hour and do as many clients as possible.

It is research. It is data collection. It is exposing myself to as many high quality service providers as I can, to learn from them, apply the knowledge, then take my favourite parts to create my own tailored approach.

It’s not throwing technique at the wall and seeing what sticks. I’m making educating choices. To therefore create the highest value, efficient and worthwhile service I can that suits my service type niche.

Just because I’m a maximalist loving tech does not mean we’re skimping on the prep/cuticle work. I do it all. And I do it efficiently.

Which is only possible because of how much I prioritise investing in my continued education.

Stop practising mistakes. Start practicing with purpose.
Knowledge IS the superpower.

The title ‘educator’ alone can’t be trusted

However there are ways to confidently decide on a trainer/mentor that is right for you involving energetics, mindset & out right evidence

I’m growing more and more as a teacher every day through every explanation and student session

A lot of the techniques I use to teach are gained through my educator course I’m completing but also from analysing the countless educators I’ve worked with over the years

If you’re looking for the ultimate cheat sheet on HOW I decided every educational investment along my now 7 year journey, comment ‘compass’ for the link by @siskkastudios

Reminder, nail techs in Australia don’t require any qualification or licensing. Same for anyone offering courses.

This is beautiful in the sense that the industry is so accessible. Anyone can decide ‘I want to be a nail tech’ and it can happen overnight. But this also leaves a lot of room for error and misinformation

Meaning you as the student or client just have to have some due diligence about bookings.

Self taught is valid. Learning on the job is valid. Starting with qualification is valid. As long as the best and safest standards are always being up held <3 by @siskkastudios

Have you ever attended a nail appointment and been refused due to damage?

Well this may be why!

As you can see accidents happen even to us nail techs. It’s how you let it heal that truly matters for the future of your nail appointments

The scope of nail damage diagnosis is ENDLESS. Sometimes the service just has be altered, other times it’s best to just keep it bare.

For us technicians, the more knowledge and experience we gain, the more confidently and efficiently we can identify how to problem solve these scenarios

That is exactly why my shaping course ‘The Siskka Shaping Encyclopedia’ includes case studies surrounding nail plate shape & type and WHY & HOW that effects the service

just some short, clean girl nail inspo for you x by @siskkastudios

the beginning vs. now

the second you think you have nothing left to learn is the same second you stop succeeding

I started my nail tech journey with sculpted acrylic. Still offer it and love it to this day

However, I’ve also adapted and learnt builder in a bottle, soft gel extensions, Russian manicures and hard gel.

Every new medium, technique or even just the slightest insight feels like an exciting new mysterious stone turned over. Even I as a nail tech of 7 years and now educator, I still upskill every single year, as often as I can

Yes there is less to learn every time I up-skill but seriously there is always still SOMETHING. That small nugget of how they hold a file, angle the drill bit, manipulate the application.

Humans are so cool because we all develop our own quirky preferences on how to approach a technique that millions of people do, so we may all assume we do it the exact same, BUT WE DON’T

Constant curiosity for learning allows you to develop your own beautiful Frankenstein techniques based off of an educated baseline of the fundamental principles of safety and execution

If you’re looking for your next favourite mystery nugget of mind blowing knowledge to add to your arsenal, it is time for a 1:1 upskilling session with me
