MEET ONE OF OUR MUSICAL GUESTS | ALONDRA MÁYNEZ

We are thrilled to welcome Alondra Máynez, an internationally acclaimed Mexican harpist, composer, and producer based in Mexico City, to The Artist Dinner Date!

A classically trained, award-winning musician, Alondra has performed internationally, from Berlin to Athens, and collaborated with renowned orchestras and contemporary artists. Her experimental electric harp practice blends electronics, improvisation, and immersive sound design, creating extraordinary sonic landscapes.

For our November 8 immersive installation, Alondra will respond in real time to projections of Nishiki Sugawara-Beda's artwork, creating a captivating dialogue between sound and image.

THE ARTIST DINNER DATE
Where Art Meets Appetite

AN IMMERSIVE EVENING WITH NISHIKI SUGAWARA-BEDA
Art. Sound. Cuisine. Conversation.

Join us for an intimate evening at Tei Tei Robata Bar, where the evocative work of Japanese-American artist Nishiki Sugawara-Beda, represented by Cris Worley Fine Arts, becomes the inspiration for a multi-sensory experience. Through immersive projections, Nishiki’s meditative Sumi ink compositions will transform the dining environment, accompanied by the ethereal sounds of Alondra Máynez on electric harp and Jon Johnston on shakuhachi, the traditional Japanese bamboo flute. Together, we’ll explore the intersections of art, identity, culture, and memory over a thoughtfully curated four-course Japanese food tasting with sake pairings, followed by an intimate conversation with the artist.

An evening designed not simply to observe art, but to experience it.

📍 Tei Tei Robata Bar | Dallas
📅 Sunday, November 8 | 6:30 PM
🎟️ $125 per guest | Only 25 seats

Well, life has taken another unexpected turn.

After five years of pouring so much of myself into building the Theatre & Film program at W.T. White, I was informed late Thursday afternoon that my position had been deemed “excess” due to district staffing numbers and that I would be transferred to another Dallas ISD campus.

I was then given essentially 24 hours to pack up five years of my life and work at the school. Unfortunately, I have an existing ADA accommodation that limits me to lifting no more than 15 pounds. In the rush to clear everything out, I reinjured my back and am now taking some time to rest, see my doctor, and figure out what my body needs next. There are parts of how all of this unfolded that I have questions and concerns about, and I am addressing those through the appropriate channels.

What I can say is that I am incredibly proud of what I built with my students over these five years - the theatre, the films, the student-written work, the productions, the creativity, the ridiculous amount of problem-solving, and most importantly, the young artists I had the privilege to teach.

This isn’t how I imagined closing this chapter. I’ve actually been trying for some time to find a healthier and more sustainable way forward while continuing to make art, teach, curate, produce, and build The Artist Dinner Date.

So perhaps this is another threshold.
For right now, though, I’m listening to my body. Resting. Getting medical care. Protecting what needs to be protected. And trusting that after five years of giving so much to one place, there is still a very big creative life waiting for me on the other side of this.

Onward. ❤️
