🧡 Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, Survivors, their families, and their communities.

Reconciliation requires ongoing learning, reflection, and meaningful action. We encourage our community to explore the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action and consider how we can all contribute to reconciliation.

Visit our website to learn more and access the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. Link in bio.

Food insecurity in Toronto is reaching crisis levels.

Today, roughly 1 in 10 Torontonians is experiencing food insecurity.

Behind these numbers are people making impossible choices between rent, medication, transportation, and groceries. Families, seniors, newcomers, and people living with mental health and substance use challenges are being pushed beyond their limits.

At Sistering, we see the impact of food insecurity every day. Through our drop-in services, meals, snacks, food access programs, and community support, we work to ensure women and gender-diverse people experiencing homelessness or precarious housing can access nutritious food with dignity, care, and compassion.

Food insecurity is not just about hunger — it is deeply connected to poverty, housing instability, health, and systemic inequities. Addressing it requires more than emergency responses; it requires collective action and long-term change.

Everyone deserves access to healthy food, stable housing, and the support they need to thrive. Check out some of the meals made with love by our kitchen team.

To support our Food Access program, donate through the link in our bio.

In recognition of Sexual Violence Prevention Month we are sharing information about human trafficking through sexual exploitation in order to bring awareness to sexual violence and educate the community to recognize the signs and control methods of exploitation and control (please be aware that not all factors are present in every case, nor does any one necessarily mean someone is being trafficked). We’ve also got some resources on help lines. by @sisteringdropin

Food insecurity rates in Canada continue to rise drastically to devastating rates. There’s been a 340% increase in food bank use from 2019 to 2025, with over 4.1 million visits to Toronto food banks in between March 2023 and April 2024. Education and employment no longer protect against food insecurity.

Sistering needs your support to meet the increasing number of people relying on us for daily meals. Donate today. Link in bio.

May 5 is Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness and Remembrance for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people (MMIWG2S).

Coined by Métis artist Jaime Black, Red Dress Day is both a powerful visual statement and a call to action. The ongoing crisis of MMIWG2S is rooted in the impacts of colonization and continues to be felt across generations, communities, and systems.

In Canada, 63% of Indigenous women have experienced physical or sexual assault in their lifetime. These realities are not isolated — they shape access to safety, health care, and overall well-being.

Today, and every day, Sistering honours the lives, strength, and spirits of Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people.

We stand in solidarity with families and communities who continue to seek justice, healing, and meaningful change. by @sisteringdropin

Women experiencing homelessness face unique, often hidden challenges, including high risks of gender-based violence and sexual exploitation. Unhoused women are often forced to stay in unsafe, temporary situations, and can be deterred from accessing men-dominated shelter spaces due to fears of harassment and violence. Sistering is the ONLY 24/7 women’s drop-in in Toronto. This means that we’re at full capacity every single day and there are limited spaces in the city where women can feel safe.

Donate today to support unhoused women. Link in bio. by @sisteringdropin
