Today is officially International Day of the Girl, and we wanted to share a glimpse of our amazing celebration from our 6th Annual You Go, Girl! Awards!

How exciting it was to celebrate with over 300 girls, their families, teachers, and community members!

We invite you to reflect on this year’s theme, “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights,” and explore what that means to you. Around the world, millions of girls won’t have access to the same opportunities as we do, including education, safety, and the freedom to choose their own futures.

Today, as we celebrate girls and their achievements, let’s also remember the importance of advocating for their rights and investing in their potential.

Happy International Day of the Girl!

Stay tuned for more exciting recaps from our incredible celebration!🫶🏾🤭

Celebrating girls starts with a community willing to show up for them. 💜

The 6th Annual You Go, Girl! Awards, in celebration of the International Day of the Girl, would not be possible without the partners who continue to believe in our girls, invest in our communities, and help us create spaces where our girls can feel seen, celebrated, and supported.

A heartfelt thank you to our 2026 event partners:

✨Refuge Newcomer Health @refugehamilton
✨The Government of Canada @cdn.heritage
✨The City of Hamilton’s City Enrichment Fund @cityofhamilton

And if you’ve been thinking about being apart of the 2026 You Go, Girl! Awards, it’s not too late to join us… 👀

Interested in becoming a partner? Reach out to Efe at efe@sistersinsync.org for more information.

Because when our community comes together, girls get to see what’s possible.

Last year, we had the honour of recognizing Zahra Hassan (@misswondrousoul) as the honorary recipient of our #BlackEducatorsMatter: Community Impact Award. 💜

As an educator, content creator, and mother, Zahra continues to make an impact both inside and outside of the classroom.

Honouring her at our 2025 You Go, Girl! Awards gave our girls an opportunity to see another example of what it can look like to use your experiences, talents, knowledge, and platform to create change that reaches far beyond yourself.

Because while this day centres the International Day of the Girl, part of protecting and investing in girlhood means making sure girls can look around the room and see women who have continued to make space for themselves, and bring others along with them.

In her speech last year, Zahra spoke directly to our community. One year later, her message still stays with all of us. 🥹

Every year, we have the opportunity to recognize someone special whose journey adds something meaningful to the room. Last year, that was Zahra.
And this year, we’re continuing that tradition as we prepare to honour Samia Ali (@samiaslife) with our #JustGettingStarted: Young Star Award. 🌟

We can’t wait to see everyone at the 6th Annual You Go, Girl! Awards, this Saturday, October 10th. 💜

We’re SO excited to announce that Samia Ali will be joining us at the 6th Annual You Go, Girl! Awards as the honorary recipient of our #JustGettingStarted: Young Star Award! 🌟

At just 11 years old, Samia has grown up sharing her personality, creativity, and confidence with audiences online. From creating content on her own YouTube channel, “Samia’s Life,” to working with brands and exploring opportunities in entertainment, Samia has already begun building a name for herself at an incredibly young age. Her content has captured the attention of millions, including Rihanna, who shared one of Samia’s early Fenty Beauty reviews!

Through it all, Samia continues to show us what it looks like for a young girl to simply be herself, have fun, create, and confidently take up space.

And the best part? She’s just getting started. 👀

We hope Samia’s story inspires our girls to pursue their passions, and recognize that they’re never too young to achieve something extraordinary.

We can’t wait to welcome Samia to Hamilton and celebrate her alongside all of our incredible 2026 nominees! 💜

Meet Stephanie Henry, our 2025 #WeSeeYou: Black Girls in STEM Award recipient! 💜

Stephanie reminds us that representation has the power to expand what a girl believes is possible for herself. Black girls have always belonged in STEM, and celebrating their accomplishments means making sure their brilliance, ambition, and contributions are visible.

So, where is Stephanie now? 👀 Stephanie is a student at McMaster University, where she is in her final year of pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. She is also a Sexual Violence Prevention Peer Educator with McMaster University’s Equity and Inclusion Office, continuing to bring together her passion for health, education, advocacy, and community impact.

Stephanie has also continued working closely with Sisters in Sync and Refuge Newcomer Health through our Youth Black Health Advisory Table, helping ensure the voices and experiences of Black youth are represented in conversations surrounding their health and well-being.
