The Luxurious Time - A queer love story. A play by Martin Lewton @sitgesqueer, and directed by @nathancrossansmith.

A true story of the author’s life with his partner, as the man he loves succumbs to dementia, asking - can the love survive? At times upsetting, sometimes funny, The Luxurious Time is a very human story which resonates with us all, acting as a queer call to action in the fight against dementia.

“Where are we? Why are we here? Where are we going?”

The Luxurious Time is a one-person play chronicling the artist’s life as the man he loves succumbs to Alzheimer’s disease, and the difficult decisions that have to be made. When dementia strikes, can the love survive?

@theluxurioustimeplay opens in @omnibustheatre London on June 4th, kicking off its UK tour with shows in @merlintheatre Frome and @blakehaytheatre Weston-Super-Mare. The artist wrote the play based on notes he made while his partner was living at home. When @sitgesqueer went back to the notes he realised that this was a story that needed to be told as a tribute to the man he had lost - and to shine light on this terrible illness and to demand that more research be done. As his partner wrote in his own notes, “now is the luxurious time when we can grow old.”

L’échange de ce jour, modéré par @sergio_chianca / Programme.Q tournera autour de la dramaturgie queer, à la suite de la parution de OUT ON STAGE (Hern Books, 2026), de @sitgesqueer , en sa présence et en présence d’autres invités du public, notamment le Collectif berlinois @erratum.studio (Hadrien Daigneault-Roy et Sascha Cowan), présents à Avignon dans le cadre du Projet Europae .Q, inspiré•e•s de Berlin, soutenu par le Fonds citoyen franco-allemand.

The Luxurious Time - A Queer Love Story is a play written and performed by Martin Lewton, and directed by @nathancrossansmith.

Based on Martin’s own true story and the notes he kept while caring for his partner at home, this deeply moving (and occasionally funny) play chronicles the difficult decisions and profound moments that arise when the person you love succumbs to Alzheimer’s disease.
