I am currently developing a woodcut project titled “Zip3 muk6 ji4 faa1”. The work starts with the idea of plant grafting and looks at how human actions can shape the form and features of living things. Grafting is the process of joining the branch of one plant to another, so that they grow together as a new whole. Although it is a useful gardening method, I also see grafting as a metaphor for choice, transfer, change, and coexistence.

This project makes me think about how the features of plants, and even species themselves, can be changed and shaped by human intervention. The work is presented as a printmaking book. It combines traditional woodcut, printing, and bookbinding techniques to turn the complex and human-made process of grafting into a visual story that can be read.

This work invites viewers to explore the intersections of botany, technology, and history, revealing how they shape culture, symbolism, and our present day.

最近我正在進行一個《Zip3 muk6 ji4 faa1》的木刻版畫書的項目。作品從植物嫁接概念出發，探討人為介入如何塑造生命的形態與特徵。嫁接是將一株植物的枝條接合到另一株植物上，讓兩者在人工促成下共同生長，形成一個新的整體。這種看似實用的繁殖技術，對我而言亦是一種關於選擇、轉移、改造與共生的隱喻。  這個項目讓我思考植物的特徵，甚至物種本身，如何因為人為介入而被改變和塑造。作品以手工書的形式呈現，結合傳統木刻、印刷及裝訂技術，將嫁接這個複雜而人工的過程轉化為可閱讀的視覺敘事。 
本作希望讓觀眾了解植物學、科技與歷史的對話，從而探討它們如何形塑文化、象徵隱喻以及我們的當代生活。

Our first collective artist residency has come to an end, and I am already missing the people we have met in this trip. 💔

Over the past 7 weeks, we have been to Santa Fe/ Albuquerque/ San Francisco/ NYC. We have experienced the dry, sandy desert climate, extreme heatwaves, and crazy rainy days. We have followed our daily routines of making art, learning to breathe in fresh air, listening to the music we love, and talking to interesting people from all over the world.

Thank you for our generous supporter, and to all people who we have met during this trip across the US, we are truly thankful to all opportunities that we had and to all the things that we have experienced.

We look forward to coming back to this beautiful land for more artistic adventures in the future 💙✨🙏🏻 by @siuwailai

I would like to express my special gratitude to the main curator, @siuwailai , for organizing and planning this exhibition. As my first official solo exhibition, I am honored to have this opportunity to share my mezzotint printmaking journey with everyone. The exhibition will run until March 15th. Everyone is welcome to come. I will gradually share more details about the exhibition soon.

“Qinlin Yang: Observing London-Mezzotint Impressions” opens from 9 - 15 March

Qinlin Yang (@_qinlinyang_ )is a Chinese artist who graduated with an MA in Illustration and Book Arts from Anglia Ruskin University, and currently lives and works in London, UK. Her practices focus on the daily experience of living in cities, capturing subtle feelings of isolation and detachment within crowded city spaces. These observations are transformed into mezzotint prints, where the slow production process allows images to take shape as perceptual impressions. The works reflect the psychological states of migrants, conveying the unease and pressure of uncertain identity while evoking the weight of diasporic experiences.

The exhibition also features students’ mezzotints, creating a visual dialogue between the urban spaces of London and Hong Kong in response to the exhibition theme.

Zao Wou-Ki: Master Printmaker 趙無極：版藝匠心 explores Zao’s printmaking, showcasing how it connects to his exploration of abstraction and highlights his prints as tools to facilitate his paintings. The exhibition suggests a new perspective on viewing Zao’s work through the perspective of printmaking.

I’m delighted to be involved in the Zao Wou-Ki exhibition at @mplusmuseum especially in the education section. A big thanks to the M+ learning and interpretation team—Winnie Lai @winnielaiwing ,Claudia Tsang @drop.n.pick , and Alvin Ao @aochonhei —for bringing me on board for the printmaking: Intaglio and Lithography demo.

I’m also really grateful to the fantastic team, including printmaker Cheung Tsz Ki @cheungtszki_print and his assistant Wong Yuk Shan @wongyukkkshan for their help during the lithography session.

Thanks to these amazing people: Jackey Yu @jackey_yu_0309 , Livia Wong @_livi.a.here_ , ManChi Ho @manchi___ho and Yan Yuet Fan @is.fanfan.ya . I’m always impressed by how hard they work to learn new skills and help out for the demo.

I am pleased to take part in the upcoming exhibition “The Doorway Effect” during Frieze Week from 17 to 20 October @aschandbagfactory in Vauxhall.
The exhibition will explore complementary perspectives on contemporary art and interrogate how cultural and personal memory is shaped and eroded by the proliferation, manipulation, and absence of images.

It brings together 16 artists who have collaborated together before across various mediums.
