Working hastily to preserve the last of the fig leaves from my aunt’s garden. The heady scent is so special- grassy and verdant but also sweet with hints of coconut. There are so many ways to use this ingredient. Looking forward to featuring it in my autumn menus.

Had a blast back at @specklestudiosf -with @shadyclaysf for another ceramics dinner. Have you tried ajo blanco? It’s a chilled almond soup from Spain and it’s been one of my most popular menu items this summer. And of course, no Six for Supper dinner is complete without a pavlova for dessert-figs, a plum & rose compote and fig leaf chantilly made this one extra special. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! In the past, the joy of this time has been mostly about recalling my childhood in HK. The moon is a symbol of reunion with family-both past and present. This year was special in that it wasn’t just about reminiscing but also about creating a new tradition in a different place. Making mooncakes with my mum and hosting a mooncake class with a delightful group in sf connected those vivid memories to the present. A full circle moment that’s very fitting for today as we celebrate the moon, reunion, family and friends.

Rose meringue kisses are a nice little gift. Recipe 👇

136g egg whites
235g bakers sugar
1tsp corn starch
1tsp white vinegar
1 tsp rose water
1tsp beet juice

Whip egg whites until frothy and add sugar one tbsp at a time. Whip until stiff peaks and rub the mixture between your fingers to ensure it’s smooth and the sugar has melted.
Add corn starch, vinegar, rose water and beet juice for color. Mix until incorporated.
Pipe into desired shape and sprinkle dry rose petals to decorate.
Place in a 200F preheated oven for 1 hour. Turn off oven and let them continue to dry out for at least 3 hours until completely cool.
