Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

I recently learned how to make Cantonese-style mooncakes in San Francisco with wonderful Nicola Yem from @six_for_supper and a group of fellow food lovers. There is something very special in spending an afternoon participating in a traditional food-making process hands-on and learning not only from the teacher but also the other participants.

In my Substack article, I talk about the afternoon by highlighting:
🥮 The ingredients in mooncakes
🥮 What steps are taken to make mooncakes
🥮 How the group got to know each other better

I also share several photos showing the process.

Have you tried mooncakes before? Let me know in the comments below.

That’s a rap for our first ceramic dinner! Thanks so much to everyone who made this possible and to Chef Nicola and artist Katie Thrash. All Katie’s dinnerware is for sale in the shop . A small beautiful collection of thoughtfully handmade dishes.

In late March, Nicola is bringing her expertise to a first-of-its-kind event at Speckle Studio in Bernal Heights. This “Clay Supper Club” is a collaboration between Nicola, studio owner Holly Coley, and ceramic artist Katie Thrash. The evening is designed as a multisensory experience where art and food are inseparable.
