𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔?

To kids, happiness may lie in something trivial. It could be owning a favourite toy or having a wish fulfilled. More often than not, happiness is tied to companionship.

For this autumn charity exhibition at 𝐒𝐈𝐗𝐈 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦, we take companionship as our theme, presenting artworks created by children from Rainbow Centre Nanjing and illustrator Chow Hon Lam @buddygatorcomics . With unadulterated colours, the young artists capture precious moments close to their hearts: building snowmen with friends, sharing dumplings on the Winter Solstice, their pet goldfish that keeps them company. To every child, loving companionship takes a unique form.
What can companionship bring when we feel lost, troubled or down? The exhibition title 𝙳𝚒𝚗𝚐! 𝙸 𝚐𝚘𝚝 𝚊𝚗 𝙸𝚍𝚎𝚊 refers not merely to ideas that fix problems, but to the companions who brainstorm alongside us through hard times. In Chow Hon Lam’s creative universe, Buddy Gator and his friends grow together. They always find light-hearted, humorous ways to ease one another’s worries.

Through these gentle little moments and objects captured in the artworks, 𝐒𝐈𝐗𝐈 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦 hopes to leave tangible traces of companionship. We invite every visitor to recall those who have stood by you, and to pass this warmth on to people in need. A dedicated quiet zone is set up within the exhibition space. After viewing the show, you may pause here, flip through picture books, read Chow Hon Lam’s original sketches, or pick up a brush to draw your own story.

During the exhibition run, therapeutic art workshops will also be held, so that companionship can truly come alive in your moments with others, and with yourself.

Event Review | The Shaped Body: How Do I Become Me? A Theater & Script-Reading Workshop

On September 11, SIXI Museum, alongside Sun Chi and playwright Qin Xu, hosted a workshop exploring the interaction between the body and its environment. Transforming the museum into an interactive space, the event broke traditional spectator-performer dynamics to examine social rules and personal boundaries.

The workshop began with physical warm-ups. Guided only by a partner’s single touch, participants navigated the gallery with closed eyes, sensing how mental shifts between rainforest and factory settings influenced their bodies. Through mirror exercises and tiered emotional studies, attendees physically realized how external expectations and the gaze of others shape their posture and behavior.

During the reading of Prometheus · ONE, participants moved through themed galleries, grounding the text in real-time bodily awareness. Spontaneous interaction built trust, allowing everyone to let down their guard. In the discussion, participants reflected on regaining sensory acuity and balancing rules with personal boundaries. The facilitators noted that theater’s essence lies in pure playfulness—a joy shared by all that evening.

By prioritizing immediate sensory experience over dramatic delivery, the workshop layered textual interpretation onto spatial awareness. It echoed Second Skin: From the Somatic to the Interstellar, guiding participants to rediscover self-certainty through the expression and liberation of their physical bodies.

At 𝐒𝐈𝐗𝐈 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦, you will have various way to experience contemporary art.

“𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳.” We strive to break free from our surroundings, yet we can never truly escape them.

Our current group exhibition, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒌𝒊𝒏: 𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑭𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒓 dives deep into this entanglement. Environment is never something outside us. It acts like skin, wrapping our lives, feelings and memories, stretching from our innermost bodies all the way to far‑off stars.

What you can do while visiting👇

See Tang Haiqing’s creative dialogue with AI algorithms. He pours fragmented text and subconscious thoughts into AI, conjuring surreal landscapes of pink haze and alien valleys.
Type snippets from your dream and see how AI interprets those vague inner glimpses.
Jot down a note and drop it in our mailbox, and become part of our collective dream‑sharing ritual.

Collect 3 stamps & claim your limited‑edition keychain🔑

Each stamp ties to a standout work:
▪️Alicja Kwade merges physical stones with their mirrored phantoms, asking: If reality and illusion start to blur, do we still see things as they really are?
▪️Rebecca Horn’s unicorn: both an extension of the human body and a heavy burden.
▪️Cao Fei places astronauts alongside vintage green trains, where past and future bleed into one frame.

Take a moment to flip through our reading selection too. These are more than exhibition references — they are another voice of the artworks.

Art isn’t only hanging on walls.
It lives in the dreams you type, stamps you collect, pages you turn.

Come to SIXI Museum and experience the show your own way.

Event Review | The World Moves Through the Body: Movement & Chanting Healing Workshop

On September 4, Irene led participants through breathing, movement, and chanting in Sixi Museum. Escaping the city‘s fast pace, attendees embarked on a somatic journey of inward discovery within a space where skin and body serve as metaphors for the environment.

Beginning with breathwork, participants tuned into their physical sensations—noticing tension, warmth, and ease—to shift focus from external strain to internal awareness. As the music flowed, bringing sounds of nature and harvest, participants imagined their bodies as ships, flowing water, or wind-swept grasslands. Instinctive movement, low hums, and chants allowed subtle, unspoken emotions to find expression and release.

Through Irene’s guidance, body and voice became direct channels for engaging with the world, revealing how life experiences leave their imprint upon physical perception. By grounding ourselves in sensory awareness, we can rebuild a meaningful connection between the self and our surroundings.

Event Review: Between Air, Heat and Electricity: An experimental sound performance and workshop with Anne-F Jacques.

On the evening of August 28, SIXI Museum, in collaboration with Solaris, invited sound artist Anne-F Jacques @annefannefannef to the exhibition space of Second Skin: From Flesh to Interstellar for an experimental sound experience. Embracing the perspective of a “tinkerer,” the artist guided the audience to use everyday objects, discovering overlooked micro-sounds through friction and vibration, thereby contemplating the connections between sound fields, space, and the self.

The event opened with Anne’s performance. Subtle yet distinct sounds filled the space, encouraging the audience to close their eyes, listen attentively, and seek familiar signals in the abstract soundscape. This performance sparked reflection and questions among attendees regarding sound arrangement, material preferences, and the meaning of “noise.” Rather than providing direct answers, Anne encouraged participants to carry these questions into the workshop to discover their own answers.

During the subsequent group workshop, the audience shifted from listeners to creators. One participant shared “When closing my eyes, I felt completely disoriented, which taught me to set aside rational interpretations of sound mechanics and return to a state of pure listening.” Attendees also keenly observed that while the artist‘s performance conveyed stillness, stability, and a Zen-like quality, the collective sounds generated by the audience were grounded in the present moment, filled with the vibrant noise of everyday life.

This event transformed the exhibition into an experimental space for perception and matter. By introducing sound as a medium, it dissolved the boundaries between the body, objects, and space, echoing the theme of Second Skin: From Flesh to Interstellar. SIXI Museum aims to guide audiences toward a heightened self-awareness through active engagement and listening, establishing new connections with the world within an invisible network of sound.

Event Review:Who Watches on Our Behalf? — The Cleaners Screening & Discussion

On the afternoon of August 23, SIXI Museum, in collaboration with the Goethe Institut China, hosted a screening of the documentary The Cleaners, followed by a post-screening discussion. The film took the audience beyond bright screens to the digital labor sites working behind the scenes.

The clean order of our screens is not taken for granted. While everyday users enjoy seamless online experiences, content moderators bear immense sensory and psychological strain. Positioned as internet filters in the global digital labor chain, they process vast streams of images daily, making rapid judgments to maintain order in digital space.

After the screening, scholar Zhu Shan led a discussion on labor rights, social psychology, and cybersecurity. He noted that content moderation is not a myth of independent algorithms, but carries real ethical costs. Governing cyberspace requires a delicate balance between mitigating harm, protecting moderators‘ mental health, and ensuring public safety.

This screening served as a collective reflection on digital ethics. In an era of big data and AI, algorithm-driven intervention poses new challenges to authentic perception and expression—a dilemma worth questioning by every user behind a screen.

Event Review: Who Owns AI Art? A Panel Discussion on AI Creation & Copyright

Entering a prompt yields text or imagery in seconds. As technology lowers creative barriers, how much human involvement remains, and who owns the final work?

On August 22, SIXI Museum hosted Prof. Wenchao Lu (School of Arts) and Prof. Minchuan Xu (Law School) from Southeast University to explore how AI reshapes artistic creation and legal copyright frameworks.

Prof. Lu highlighted that AI is not a creative entity, but a generative tool. Human drive, aesthetic judgment, and curation remain irreplaceable. Drawing from 14 AIGC court rulings, Prof. Xu explained that copyright protection depends on human input—such as model choices, prompt design, and manual edits. Detailed records of human-AI interaction are thus essential evidence, though legal standards still struggle to keep pace with evolving art concepts.

During the Q&A, audience and panelists tackled core questions: Does prompting count as creation? Do one-click images hold copyright? How do we avoid AI plagiarism? The consensus was clear: creative intent alone does not guarantee legal protection; law evaluates tangible human contribution throughout the process.

As AI becomes a new interface for creation, human agency has not disappeared. How we choose, refine, bestow meaning, and take responsibility matters more than ever.

Event Review: Digital Resonance- AI Perception Workshop🌀✨

On the August 15, artist Haiqing Tang @haiqing.tang and workshop participants gathered at SIXI Museum for a deep dialogue on perception and emotion through AI, capturing deeply personal imagery hidden within their sensory experience.

In Tang’s practice, the human-AI dynamic extends far beyond a one-way prompt-and-response—it is an equal, resonant dialogue. The workshop opened with intuitive sensing. Tang guided participants to observe objects, moving past rational analysis of shape and structure to capture the immediate feelings and associations they evoked. Touch, scent, dreams, and fleeting impressions were then translated into highly personal text prompts.

Through iterative cycles of generation, refinement, and re-creation, participants tuned the images closer to their internal world, revealing long-overlooked thoughts and states of mind.

By engaging with AI, participants joined Tang in a process of self-discovery. This captures a core vision of the workshop: technology is not a tool for perfecting technique, but a mirror reflecting perception—helping us re-encounter the real moments we so often miss.
