🎀I am beyond excited to share that my debut curatorial project, Soft Structures, opens this week at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles! It has been incredible connecting with so many endlessly talented artists—I cannot believe I get to do what I do. This exhibition has felt like an extension of my own practice, rooted in femininity and strength. I am so deeply grateful for every artist in this exhibition as well as the Museum community and my incredible co-curators, Zachary and Renata. Our opening reception is this Friday, October 2nd at 6pm!! Free admission, refreshments, and remarkable art🩵 by @sjmqt

Soft Structures: The Female Body as Labor and Resistance examines the female experience through textile art, emphasizing work about women’s bodies, labor, and resistance. This exhibition brings together contemporary and historical female artists working with quilts, wearables, sculptures, mixed media, photography, hand weaving, and textile painting.

These pieces will be part of Soft Structures, the female body as labor and resistance, a group show at the San Jose museum of quilts and textiles opening this Friday, Oct 2nd. Dionne discovered quilting in the late 1980s through a class at Wiffle Tree Quilts. She loved the endless possibilities in design, color, and construction. Dionne’s early quilts raised funds for her children's youth music programs and international tours. Since 2022, Dionne teaches sewing courses in clothing, quilting, and home goods using her original patterns. She recently returned to garment and home décor sewing, including an interest in upcycling to reduce landfill waste and reliance on new purchases.
