The University of Alberta serves the greedy, private interests of a small group of wealthy individuals. Meet your Board of Butchers.
The majority of the University’s Board of Governors are appointed by the United Conservative Party, with no say or input from the students, faculty, or staff who are the reason this campus can function. They elect members like Janice McKinnon, who, besides denying Canada’s history as a settler-colonial state, has a long track record of undercutting public health services and university operations.
This small, insular group decides how our university operates and where the university invests its money. While your tuition rates increase every year and more students face housing and food insecurity, the University of Alberta Board of Butchers invests in the infrastructure of genocide in Palestine through massive investments into companies like Magellan and Rolls Royce, both of whom manufacture parts of tanks and fighter jets used to murder Palestinians in Gaza; as well as Booking Group, who allows illegal settlements and stolen homes in the West Bank to be used as vacation rentals.
The Board of Butchers implicates the entire U of A community through their investments and actions. But make no mistake: they have no power without us.
Join us on October 17th at 10 am, outside University Commons on campus, during the next Board of Governors meeting. Rally with us to show that we will not rest until our demands are heard: divestment from genocide, and action against settler colonialism, from Treaty 6 to Palestine.

The U of A administration is standing by while students are being murdered. The University has admitted many of the 70+ Palestinian students accepted to Canadian universities - but many remain trapped in Gaza due to visa delays. Will the University speak out and advocate for the safety of these students or will they stand by as more are murdered by Israel?

Yesterday all MacEwan students received an email from Craig Monk. The day before, all staff and faculty received a very similar email from Monk AND Trimbee.

It is clear through these emails that MacEwan is attempting to frame this situation to fit their agenda.

A reminder, Craig Monk is a vocal and public Zionist. We reject his framing, and we reject MacEwan’s false accusations.

MACEWAN ASSAULTED FEMALE STUDENTS ON CAMPUS🚨🚨🚨

Security and Peace Officers roughly dragged multiple students out of campus during a vigil for the martyred scholars.

They didn’t even let them say one name.

The tuition paying students are not allowed on campus for an entire week DURING midterms.

The students clearly communicated to security that if Administrators agreed to meet with them, they would end the demonstration.

REMEMBER OUR MARTYRS 🇵🇸

Join us at Allard Hall on Oct. 7th as we remember and honour the students and scholars murdered by the Israeli regime.

Over 21,000 students and scholars killed in 3 years.

And MacEwan is complicit in every single one.

In their silence and blatant complicity, MacEwan has participated in a complete scholasticide; the systematic destruction of the educational system in Gaza. An attempt by the occupiers to impact generations of Palestinians. But Palestine, Gaza especially, remains one of the most educated and literate populations on Earth. A testament to their resilience.

We will read the names of the martyrs on Wednesday and allow that resilience to push us forward as we continue to fight for justice on their behalf.
