melancholia is a short film that’s so visually stunning, you’d never believe it was shot on an iPhone.

Written and directed by Lisette McAllister-Liew, who also stars in the film, melancholia explores the ups and downs of dealing with depression.

melancholia was awarded Best Film at this year’s WA Made Film Festival smartphone filmmaking competition by the festival’s Smart Jury, Miley Tunnecliff (Proclivitas), Jason Robert Lester (Bleederville) and Jaron Herren (The Mustangs).

melancholia; severe depression characterised by profound sadness and despair.

FINALLY posting my little 2 min iPhone film that won judge’s choice at @wamadefilmfestival earlier this year.

The prompt for the comp was ‘WAVE’ so naturally I chose waves of depression. This topic is close to me and this film is a little insight into my experience with it- what goes on inside my head. Mental illness is not a linear journey and you have to ride out the waves of intensity.

I love abstract and experimental visuals and COLOUR so I hope that is reflected in my style.
