Freehand allows me to build the tattoo around you; your shape, your movement, and any tattoos you already have. The result is a piece that flows with the body rather than something that simply sits on top of it.

For larger designs like this, there are huge benefits to starting with a freehand session. It allows us to test proportions, placement and overall flow directly on the body, giving us the space to play with the composition until it feels exactly right.

Because this design incorporates a lot of straight lines and structure, I used the freehand to map everything out and then took it away afterwards to refine the stencil. I place a lot of value on precision where it matters, and for a piece with this level of structure, taking that extra step ensures every proportion and line sits exactly as it should.

If you’re unsure about placement or proportions, I offer a free 30-minute consultation where we can test ideas and even explore small freehand layouts together. For larger pieces that require longer mapping sessions, I just ask that the tattoo is booked with a deposit first, as these sessions can take an hour or more to get perfect.

One of my favourite compliments I’ve ever received was that getting tattooed by me “feels like a collaboration” rather than someone simply drawing on their skin… and that’s exactly the experience I want every appointment to feel like.

Tattoos are forever. The process should feel intentional, creative, and designed for you.

Still obsessed with how these whip-shaded mandalas come out 😮‍💨

The blends are so smooth, the gradients are fucking beautiful and I love how much contrast this one has without it feeling too heavy.

The last one I did like this was on a hand and it healed sooo nicely, so I’m very excited to see how this one settles too.

The flowers, the little beads, the touches of red. I keep watching it back and finding another bit I love.

We built around her existing red sun, figured out a few details on the day and had such a laugh making it. Sometimes those last-minute decisions just bring everything together.

Half healed, with the red freshly touched up to give it a little more brightness ❤️

When she first came to me, she knew she wanted flowers and butterflies and had a design in mind. We took that idea and made it her own.

I love the way the X-ray style flowers flow across her back and give the piece so much dimension. Flowers and butterflies might be a familiar starting point, but the details, placement and mix of tones make this feel entirely hers 🦋

I get this question in my DMs all the time, and the annoying answer is… it depends 😂

It’s a bit like asking, “how much is a cake?”
Are we talking a cupcake, or a three-tier wedding cake?

Tattoo pricing works the same way.

A few things affect the price:

* size — finger-sized or full forearm?
* detail — tiny and intricate can sometimes take longer than something bigger and simpler
* style — fine line, realism, bold blackwork, lettering etc all take different amounts of time
* placement — arms and legs are usually easier than ribs, stomach, sternum etc, where the skin moves more and the body curves make placement/tracing harder
* time — ultimately, the more time and precision it needs, the more it will cost

This is why two tattoos that look “the same size” can be completely different prices.

My biggest advice: don’t be scared to ask.
Book a consultation, send a DM, show your references, tell your artist the rough size and placement and get a proper quote. That’s literally what consultations are for.

And honestly, if you’ve got a few tattoos you want, it can often make more sense to book a half day or full day rather than three separate appointments.

Why? Because every appointment needs a fresh setup — needles, inks, barriers, cleaning, stencil prep, all of it. If you get multiple pieces done in one sitting, you’re not paying for that setup time over and over again, and you usually get much better value from your session.

So no, there isn’t one set answer to “how much is a tattoo?”
But if you send me:
your idea + placement + rough size + references, I can usually give you a pretty accurate quote.
